I saw that Billy Cannon, the former LSU and Oakland Raiders star, has died at age 80. He will forever be known as the Heisman Trophy winner who made the most money. That is because he went to prison for counterfeiting.

Life is what you make it. Billy made his share of really poor choices in life. But because of my memories of him from childhood, he will always be "Billy-Boom-Boom Cannon.
It would be interesting to see a list of Heisman winners and how successful they were after their playing days concluded. O.J. would end up being the worst, but Cannon and some others also made poor choices. I would think that Roger Staubach came out the best in all facets of his life.

Why would Staubach be? I’m not saying you’re wrong but what has he done that trumps guys like Spurrier, Woodson, Walker or even Tim Brown? While the list of players who didn’t become NFL stars is high, there are plenty who have became very successful.

Why would Staubach be? I’m not saying you’re wrong but what has he done that trumps guys like Spurrier, Woodson, Walker or even Tim Brown? While the list of players who didn’t become NFL stars is high, there are plenty who have became very successful.
Because he was tremendously successful in the business world and was so respected that he was urged to run for high office, even president. That's why I mentioned that it was all facets of his life, not just an NFl career. Many Heisman winners didn't go on to any kind of pro football career, but it was on how they ran their lives that would be the final judgment for me.
