I saw that IU is now #12 in RPI, and wondered about the other Big Ten schools at present---here are the #s.....UM 5; WIS 8; MSU 9; IU 12; MN 14; OSU 18; Iowa 29; Neb 30; Purdue 44; MD 45; PSU 81; Rut 91; Northwestern 96; ILL 149. AP poll has it: UM 4; MSU 10; OSU 15; WIS 16; IU 22; Iowa 23; NEB 25; MD 27; Pur 32; MN 37 (MD, Pur, MN based on votes for "others").
These RPI #s are way off what I would have guessed from watching these teams play, not just against IU, but some other games as well......until you consider it does not take into account margins of victory, but does consider SOS and home/away.......The poll spots look more realistic to me.....so my first question is where would you rank the BIG 10 teams, right now, based on your observations? To me, it would be something like this: UM 4; MSU 8; WIS 16; OSU 18; NEB 21; IU 22; Iowa 25; MD 29; MN 36; NW 42; PUR 50; PSU 70; Rutgers 85; Illinois 90.
So....a related question would be who has the most potential to improve by the end of the year? I would answer MSU, IU & Maryland.....
