Bidunga

I see Bidunga as a role player who will get 2-5 minutes per game. As mentioned...he is not a complete player offensively. He is a role player, mostly on defense. He has quickness and hops for sure. But so do a bunch of interior players who can shoot the ball from 15 feet out regularly. Is there room on the roster for him? Sure....but not as an alternative to an interior player who can shoot the ball inside or out.
Absurd. Its almost universally accepted he should have played more for Kansas this year, than he did. This is one of the issues being saddled with Dickenshit gave KU. When Flory did play, he was crazy impactful.

He'd be a main rotation guy at IU, likely a starter. And with having a guy like DeVries as the likely 4 man, having Bidunga's athleticism, and length "behind" him, at the 5, will be necessary.

Speaking specifically to Flory... IF, IF... we get Conwell and Dix to go with DeVries...then I think having someone like Flory is almost necessary...mainly for defensive purposes. Gotta have a backline protector with Dix and DeVries playing big minutes. Neither of them are lock down defenders.

The question becomes...could Coach DeVries find a less expensive version of Flory, and allocate more of the NIL war chest for more/better guards? (I personally think this is kinda Straw man...as I think signing Flory wouldn't have any impact on signing other high level players)

It sure seems like the following are very real possibilities:

DeVries
Conwell
Dix (played AAU with Tucker)
Enright
Flory
Sisley

If that's true...what else do we need? I say as many athletic 3, D, and ball handling guards as you can find, and another big man.
You need a ton, most glaringly a PG that can guard. If Enright it our starting PG next season we are in trouble. Also need way more athletes all around the rotation. I like most on this list but not sure athletically they can keep up. Game is played at a fast pace and physical the line up posted above has glaring holes.

No clue what Enright's plans or thought process are, but I think he'd be an ideal "6th man"...energy, bursts of offense, solid ball handler... I'd prefer to use the massive IU resources to get an All B10 level lead guard alongside Conwell... Easier said than done, but there are a TON of Mid major POTY/ALL Conference level guards in the portal.

I know it seems preposterous to desire rosters like Auburn, Florida, Houston, etc... But its not like any of those teams were built over time and developed. And we have the money, and "situation", to duplicate what they've done. And having Enright as your starting PG, doesn't likely stack up with those levels of teams. In my opinion.
Enright had one of the highest assist rates in the country last year at 30%; good enough for 17th nationally. If you have shooters and scorers lined up 2-4, you don't need a 15 shot a game ppg. You need a guy who runs the offense and has a high A/TO rate. That fits Enright to a T. He's not a flashy player by any means and I'm assuming that's why so many are hesitant on him. But if he can protect the ball and hit an open 3....something he did plenty at Drake...he's a perfect fit.

how "long" is Flory? I thought that was something of a knock on him, when he was actually measured I thought he was 6'8"?

If you've seen him play in person the first thing you noticed is he's the fastest player on the court at any position. Remember his numbers were in 16mpg. I would wager there will be 3 players on this team being built between the 4/5 that can play the 5. I would keep an eye on Reed Bailey.

So, why didn’t he?
You'd have to ask Self that question for the real answer??

My guess is he probably didn't fit well playing alongside Dickinson or KJ Adams. And with how much they had invested in Dickinson, reportedly, sitting him for long stretches probably wasn't in the cards.

As an anchor 5, rim protector, lob catcher, pick and roll guy... Flory could flourish. At a minimum, given 20 minutes a game, he'd be a 10 and 7 type guy, that would be an impactful back line defender. He'd be main rotation, at IU, without question.

And this part IS NOT a reason to focus on him, give him enormous NIL, etc... but it would be an added bonus... He would bring people to Assembly Hall, and would re energize our program, to a certain extent, in the state of Indiana.

I think you could pair him with Reed Bailey and put 3 senior combo guards that can shoot the lights out and be a very successful year one team. You would need another serviceable big off the bench and a string of 3andD guys off the bench.

Would love to get in on a big like Bailey...Kentucky has been mentioned A LOT with him though.

Don't forget about Enwright, that sounds like the most likely of all portal guys to me right now. Won't be surprised if he ends up at Iowa, but I think it's obvious CDD thinks highly of him. Nothing wrong with a PG that has great assist #s and can make 3s and FTs.

I wonder why Enright didn't follow DeVries to WVU. Seems odd.

If Enright had an issue with DeVries then why would he visit IU?

Do Devries teams run many plays for rim runners? Coach says he is building a team. If Bidunga wants to be the guy then I doubt coach wants him but he could provide a lot of rebounding rim protection.

Ware sucked at Oregon and look what he did after leaving Oregon. I would not put all my NIL eggs in one basket for Bidunga but if he improves his offense any at all could be similar to a player like Gafford or Tshiebwe. Ware had amazing offensive skill set that didn't limit him to paint points. I'd probably take Bidunga for sure if the coach wants him.

Didn't he have a returning senior PG at WVU? Thought I remembered that and that folks were disappointed he didn't have eligibility left: Small?
Javon Small was there, and he brought in a different mid major guy Jayden Stone.

With regards to Javon Small... there's an X post saying that he's declaring for the NBA draft... hasn't he exhausted his eligibility? Honestly don't know... he played in 16 and 18 games, respectively, his first two years. Would he have gotten a 5th year if he wanted it? Otherwise...why announce he's declaring for the draft???

Javon Small has played 4 seasons, starting with the 21-22 season, which I think is the first non-Covid season. He played too many games each season to redshirt: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/javon-small-1.html

I think roster wise, he's a decent fit. Just not overly excited about him, at this point, as the starting PG. Assuming we're getting Conwell (GREAT get), I'd prefer someone alongside him, as our main backcourt...more like: Tahaad Pettiford, Miles Kelly, Denver Jones, Walter Clayton, Alijah Martin, Will Richard, Denzel Aberdeen, LJ Cryer, Milos Uzan, Otega Oweh, Lamont Butler, Aden Holloway, Mark Sears, Labaron Philon... pretty long list of types of guys like that. And there are probably dozens of them in the portal right now. Give IU a guy like anyone on the above list alongside Conwell, and have Enright come off the bench... THEN we have a B10/FF competitive backcourt.

Universally accepted by everyone except the head coach? Sounds like Self needs to spend some time on the message boards so he can level up.

Probably why Kansas has 5 players currently in the portal right now. Self gave way too much leeway to his older players and why he subsequently had his worst season there in over 20 years.

Self's decisions led to one of his worst teams in over 20 years. I think he'd probably handle many things differently if he could. And the amount of portaled players indicates he is working to correct those mistakes. Or the roster is doing it for him.

He and Hawthorne would make a great addition to frontline for several years.
