There's some light rain out there so this game may be delayed a little bit. It's 50 degrees as I post this with wind out of the WNW at 9 mph and practically no gusts.

IU starts a nine-game homestand.

RHP Cole Gilley gets the start and don't look for him to go past two innings since he will be needed for the weekend. He has an ERA of 2.39 with a WHIP of 0.76 in 26.1 IP. He has 33 Ks to just 5 BBs and his OBA is .155. Schuyler is behind the plate.

Bellarmine starts RHP Oliver Ward with an ERA of 2.83 and a WHIP of 1.61 in 25.1 IP. He has 23 Ks against 20 BBs so he has had some control problems at times, and he has given up 15 extra base hits to include 6 homers. His OBA is .351.

Mercer shook up the lineup some today. The batting order is Wiggins, Taylor, Dickerson, Hanley, Cerny who is at 2nd today, Denny (DH), Malamazian who is at SS, Schuyler, and Moore who will be at 3B.

T1st:

Gilley got the leadoff hitter on a groundout. He then walked a batter on a full count. A flyout got the 2nd out.

B1st:

Wiggins walked on a full count and it was his 25th walk of the season.

Taylor flied out. Wiggins stole 2nd to put a runner in scoring position and one out.

Dickerson doubled off the top of the wall in LF to score Wiggins to give IU an early 1-0 lead.

Hanley cranked a two-run homer over the RF wall to give IU a 3-0 lead.

Cerny hit a hard-hit ball to center field and the fielder dived for the ball and missed it, and Cerny rounded the bases for an inside-the-park homer.

Denny grounded out for two outs. Malamazian doubled to put a runner in scoring position with two outs.

Schuyler singled to score Malamazian. Moore singled to put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs and we were at the top of the order again in Wiggins. Wiggins grounded out to end the inning.

End of 1st: IU 5 Bellarmine 0

T2nd:

Gilley didn't go two innings like I thought he would as LHP Ryan Kraft replaced him. The leadoff hitter reached on an infield hit.

Kraft then got a K for the first out. The runner on 1st was picked off by Kraft and he was tagged out at 2nd for two outs.

Kraft then put a runner on a four-pitch walk. A groundout retired the side.

B2nd:

It was the 2 thru 4 batters up with Taylor leading off. The game starter was still out there for the Knights after a really rough 1st.

Taylor homered to right center to make it 6-0. Dickerson singled to put a runner on and you wonder just how long they stick with their game starter.

Hanley hit into a DP for two outs.

Cerny reached on an error. Denny doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs.

Malamazian singled to score both Cerny and Denny to make it 8-0. Malamazian tried to take 2nd and was tagged out to end the inning,

End of 2nd: IU 8 Bellarmine 0

T3rd:

LHP Grant Holderfield replaced Kraft and he put them down in order.

B8th:

LHP Carson Brower replace Ward and he had an ERA of 12.86 and a WHIP of 2.86 in 7.0 IP, and he faced the 8 thru 1 hitters. Schuyler grounded out and Moore bunt singled to put a runner on with the top of the order up.

Wiggins hit into IU's 2nd DP of the game to end the inning.

End of 3rd: IU 8 Bellarmine 0

T4th:

It was the 3 thru 5 hitters up and RHP Aydon Decker-Petty came in for Holderfield. His ERA was 12.27 ERA with a WHIP of 2.19 in 3.2 IP and it's been awhile since we saw him on the mound.

It was not a good start for D-P as he walked the leadoff batter on a 3-1 count. A FC got the runner at 2nd for one out and a runner at 1st.

Schuyler threw out the runner at 2nd on an attempted steal for two outs and no one on. A K retired the side. A good inning for D-P despite the leadoff walk.

B4th:

It was the 2 thru 4 hitters up with Taylor leading off with Brower still on the mound.

Taylor doubled to leadoff and then took 3rd on a WP. Dickerson singled to score Taylor.

Hanley walked on a full count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs.

Denny was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Cerny flied out for the first out.

A grand slam homer to RF by Malamazian put the score at 13-0.

Schuyler grounded out for the 2nd out. Moore walked on a full count to put a runner on.

Wiggins reached on a FC and an error on the play with Moore moving to 2nd.

Taylor grounded out to end the inning.

End of 4th: IU 13 Bellarmine 0

T5th:

LHP Ryan Rushing replaced D-P and he had an ERA of 6.43 and a WHIP of 1.43 in 7 IP.

Rushing Kd the leadoff hitter. He then walked a batter on a 3-1 count. Another K got the 2nd out. A single put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs. A K retired the side.

B5th:

It was the 3 thru 5 hitters up with Dickerson leading off and Bellarmine went to the bullpen. Decker pinch hitted for Dickerson.

IU went down in order.

End of 5th: IU 13 Bellarmine 0

T6th:

Mercer continues to give pitchers one inning of work with RHP Trey Telfer replacing Rushing and he had an ERA of 1.69 with a matching WHIP of 1.69 in 5.1 IP.

It was not a good start for Telfer as he walked the leadoff batter and then gave up a single to put runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs. A DP ball got two outs with a runner at 2nd. A K retired the side.

B6th:

Denny singled to lead off. Malamazian flied out with Denny reaching 2nd. Schuyler reached on a FC with Denny out tryng to take 3rd. Moore walked on four pitches. Wiggins flied out to end the inning.

End of 6th: IU 13 Bellarmine 0

I won't bother to do a postgame recap and will wait for the IU site to do that considering how this game went.

IU outhit the Knights 15-3 and had four doubles to go along with four homers.

A couple of stats for two players were that Malamazian went 3 for 4 with a grand slam and 6 RBIs on the game. Dickerson went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Mercer gave the pitchers one inning each for the 7 innings and they gave up just 3 hits, so no need to go over their stats.

IU had a clean game fielding-wise with no errors and two DPs. Bellarmine had an error and also had two DPs.

Vogel was in uniform and hoing through throwing warmups with team last Friday night. I did realize buhr injured has that been confirmed? I noticed he didn’t play last weekend but I only saw the first game live

The fact that they didn't give Buhr one of the innings in this game. tells me that something is probably up with him.

Has any info been released on Jacob Vogel, Josh Pyne and Drew Buhr?
This has to be one of the most frustrating things I have ever experienced following IU baseball, concerning Josh Pyne. He is a starter from day 1 of his freshman year and plays as an every day player for 3 years. And this year, his final year, he doesn't play. Not one explanation that I have heard. The one game I have gone to this year, he played, and looked fine to me (if an injury is the reason). He made a fantastic, diving, defensive play in the game, too. Never once saw any sign that he was nursing something, and I was watching. And I just tried to listen to the "talking IU baseball" on the IUbase.com site and that was useless. 40 minutes of not talking about much, other than stats that I already have looked up. I know they have interviewed Mercer before, so I'm wondering ytf nobody has asked about it. I wish I could comment on their site.

The kid announcers last night said he was done for the year. Supposedly it's why they moved Cerny to 2nd, Malamazian to SS, and Moore to 3rd. But honestly, who knows?

Mercer said previously that Pyne was nursing an injury. I didn't hear that it was season-ending. I assume he will be able to get this season back on appeal to the NCAA, They (staff) keep injury news to themselves like they are protecting the nuclear codes. Just saying that a player is nursing an injury and it's short or long term does not violate any privacy issues, but you can't even get that out of them, at least over a lengthy period.

I’m pretty sure I heard Ben Haller say Pyne’s injury was a back injury several weeks ago. I’m not sure if he gets healthy he supplants Cooper though. I would definitely like to hear Buhr isn’t a season thing whatever he has

Just saw on X reporting that Mercer announced Buhr out this coming series but hopefully back in action for the following weekend
