Belein to NBA

Purdue has 3 recognized NCAA championships*--1961 men's golf; 1999 women's bball; 2010 women's golf.

IU has 24 recognized NCAA championships--all men's--8 soccer; 6 swimming; 5 bball; 3 cross country; 1 track & field; 1 wrestling. I would like to know how many runner's up IU has---probably another 24 or so...........

Purdue has 30 individual national champions; IU has 141.

Purdue has 73 BT team championships**, IU has 177

Purdue has 13 BT tourney championships, IU has 19.

*Purdue claims 5 NCs---including 1932 Helm's basketball & 2018 cheer leading. If we want to play that game, IU has 6 cheer leading/dance championships & 3 collegiate water polo association championships we can drag out.

**Purdue claims 83 BT championships......however, the 177/73 #s cited are from the BT record book. Purdue tends to lie on these things....I see they claim 4 squash championships from the '30s & '40s, lol.
This is great! Looks like you are locked and loaded for any broilees that try and debate you! ;)

Per 247 they only have two 3-stars signed. And seems like half the team is jumping into the draft. Maybe he's picking the right time to jump ship. Fine with me, he's been a pain in IU's arse for a while.

Correction- class includes Jalen Wilson who is now listed as a 4 star, and I wouldn't be surprised if he re-opens his recruiting ASAP.
He is the best coach in the big ten imo and he would have found a way to win again next year. He always does. That being said I am glad he is leaving as he has just owned IU lately.

While I am glad we do not have to play him again it is a hit to the legit side of college bbal. He leaves while the slimeballs like Wade and Cal stay.

Beilein had "become increasingly frustrated with the nature of college basketball recruiting and the retention of top players." Let's take those one by one. The FBI investigation that uncovered just how prevalent cheating had become underlined the challenges a by-the-book recruiter like Beilein faced annually. Trust me when I tell you, he won't miss that part of the sport at all.

There is always tons of angst and sunshine here about how Glass or the former administrations handled HC in basketball post Knight. It will be interesting to see what Michigan does and how it compares. The attitude here is that IU is a "blueblood" program so they shouldn't be at any disadvantage to bringing in HC talent in basketball. How far does Michigan fall in the B1G? How long does it take to rebound? There is actually now an apples to apples situation you can size up Glass and Archie against.

JOHN BELIEN TO THE CAVS!
I almost(almost)feel sorry for Michigan fans here. Belein to the NBA? Really? Cleveland, no less? Such an odd pairing, I just can't see it working, I can't see it...period, frankly, like literally can't see it, but...how strange. I mean, why? He had such a great thing going at Michigan, why throw that away to lose 55 games a year, get ignored by a bunch of Diva's, & have to sit around & answer dumb questions all night about why you lost? Whatever dude!

As far as coaching the game on the court, college basketball is much, much more desirable. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be involved in coaching in the NBA absent the huge perks involved.

The problem with coaching college is everything else. Recruiting in college has turned into a nightmare in all respects. Competing against the UK & NC $ machines for prospects tied to shoe companies. The 'student-athletes' are students in name only. Phony classes & majors are the norm. You're a father (and mother) figure that is responsible for everything your willful, horny 19 year olds do on the side. And now you've got the federal government and the FBI snooping around all the time, not just the incompetent & corrupt NCAA. Way too much potential downside.

OK, I'll take your word for it versus that of folks who have, you know, actually coached in college. As I said, there are exceptions, but generally most prefer the NBA life as a coach. All bball absent recruiting, influencers, silly NCAA regs, admin and boosters. Bball and just win baby. Oh, and bigger salaries.

Or...maybe he just doesn't want to be lectured by a pos Boiler...

Were you expecting that elusive validation you continue to seek here...?

Nope, just real basketball conversation. Will be interesting to see how it goes with Michigan replacing their HC in comparison, could go either way. But I do think it's silly the posters who say they are a football school and don't focus on basketball.

Michigan football is their focus.

Vegas has Beard as the favorite followed by Pitino. Guess since bolted Vegas for Tech they have no confidence he will hold up to his deal.

It will depend on the hire.
Football is still king at the home of The Big House.
