If you go to 2:42, you can see a couple dancing facing you and a younger dude in suspenders. Behind him is another couple, a shorter guy with suspenders dancing with a woman with bangs in a 30s/40s style. Those two taught east coast swing and lindy hop at all the Austin clubs in the 90s. Cool people, great dancers, really into the scene.

I am blanking on their names, but knew them fairly well. Reminds me of a good story: tried to date this beautiful chick who knew them well, too, and was also in the swing dancing scene. She was a waitress at a diner I went to often near the law school (Red River Cafe). She agreed to go out on a date with me the summer I was studying for the bar exam, after I worked up the nerve to ask her out. Great date. Then she thanked me and said can we be friends, I'm a lesbian. Her name, I will never forget.

Damn I miss Austin of the 90s.

Singles was the soundtrack of our generation. And no Reality Bites? For shame.

In my youth I got pretty far into Monty Python, National Lampoons shit. Literally have never seen Singles (or I don’t remember it).

Started getting into movies with Tarantino. Saw Pulp Fiction Like 8 times in the theater (freshman year at IU). Jaw dropping for young Lars. Coen brothers coming up. Kubrick.

Everybody’s list is different because of how a movie made you feel. Like, I never watched Seinfeld or Friends. Zero interest at the time.

Never liked sitcoms. Except for Silicon Valley.

Damn Pulp Fiction though. First time I really felt film as Art. Also in the pantheon of greatest opening scenes in movie history. Along with Inglouious Basterds.

Best wtf opening though to a movie I can remember though. The Matrix. Just changed the entire game.

Ps. Also 1998.

That's fine. I get it. I love 80s movies. I was talking 90s though.

I think of the Gen X vibe as the one from the 90s--Reality Bites, Before Sunrise, Dazed and Confused, etc. Kinda like grunge vs. hair metal--getting away from over production and focusing more on authenticity. Less rah-rah optimism, materialism, and formulaic, and more skepticism, ambiguity, and new forms/post-modern mentality (a little ironic self-reflection and commentary).
