Awful, team has zero heart and yes, Archie should be on very hot seat ...

IU played hard and with passion in streaks last night which is an improvement over what we have seen over the past three weeks. They simply were beaten by a very good shooter who had his season high. IU usually gets everyone's A game and always has.

I don't know how much longer we get everyone's "A"game.....even Rutger's fans didn't seem overly excited when they beat us.

Seems to me that we have a discipline/focus problem. Guys just seem to lose who they're supposed to be for stretches of the game. I thought Devonte had a really bad game last night. I cringe every time he touches the ball when he plays like he did last night. 4 turnovers and 0 assists in 17 minutes tells the story. Would like to see Rob Phinisee get more than 28 minutes.

Still time to shore things up but this ship is listing pretty badly right now

yes, yes, yes, and yes. I mostly blame Crean for recruiting these guys in the first place, but that doesn't do us any good. CAM only has until next year to fix it.....after that, he's got no credibility left.

So you feel like it's the players and not the system? I feel like the system is largly to blame.

Forget about football. Other than Mallory, they have been bad for 100 years with 2 exceptions, '68 and '40.
'67('68 Rose Bowl), & '45, but yes, only 2 really successful seasons.

What makes this board so enjoyable are the posters who think they are basketball coaching experts because they watched games coached by RMK (IU alum or not) teaming up with the obvious millennials who demand immediate gratification.

Funny stuff.

Don't forget 1/5 shooting

I'm not sure what kind of system we could run offensively which would work better with these guys. Perhaps some more high post Morgan, low post Davis, but that means the lane is clogged for Romeo. Would like to see more picks near the 3 pint line. Less reliance on the weave/handoff and more reliance on playing inside-out and setting more picks. Slow down and grind it our rather than trying to play fast. Green, Smith & Romeo playing fast isn't good, as they aren't great ball handlers and only Romeo can finish around the basket........but I think its 80% players, 20% scheme.

On D, I think the scheme is sound. Overall, the D #s aren't that bad. What kills us is failure to ID 3 pt shooters & the lack of hustle on closeouts on 3s and, occasionally, failure to move feet to deny dribble penetration or mishandling ball screens---so 95% of that is lack of attention to detail or lack of effort.

I have yet to see anyone say either "Relax", or "Enjoy it". But, like fpeaugh, you seem to like to make up strawmen, then knock them down. I'm pretty sure there is a term for that.

How the hell does this have anything to do with how hard IU played last night? I don't care if you played in the NBA it doesn't make your opinion any more (or less) valid. It also doesn't prove that you know more or less about the game, there are a lot of people that didn't have the physical tools to play but know the game inside and out. There are also players in the NBA that are physically gifted, but have the basketball IQ of a fire hydrant.

The fact is, this team has lost 8 of 9 games. In at least 3 of those losses they had either equal or better talent. Romeo and Justin were the most gifted guys in the court last night, yet their defensive rotations were atrocious, and Justin was trying to guard 3 point shooters with his arms down letting guys splash right in his face. Never mind Devonte Green's inability to avoid turnovers. They played extremely lazy at times in the first half and in crunch time they played scared to death, passing up one open shot after another.

We all root for the same team, but at times It's okay to put the cream and crimson glasses away and call it like we see it. I'm sure they work hard in practice, but for large portions of games they play like a scared, and lazy basketball team.
I think a lot of the most vocal critics on the board have never played basketball and don't know much about what it takes to do it. Some think we played well or hard because we won and others think we played bad or lazy because we lost. It's not always so.

I agree with you that the players made mistakes on offense and defense.

I still don't get it ... what's hair got to do with basketball?
Why do you think the military has a standard for haircuts??? You are obviously a panty wuss snowflake so it's pointless explaining it to you.

You mentioned elsewhere that you thought CAM has 'lost this team'.

My immediate thought was that 'he never had it'.

I say that because from the first time I saw this team with CAM (scrimmage at HH, 2017-18), I was concerned about their overall demeanor. It was obvious that 1/2 of the team had no interest in being there. Now one can say, 'what the hell, it's only a scrimmage', but it was very alarming because I would have expected a different attitude for a new coach, new era. For this reason, I was not surprised we lost to a few nobodies in Fall 2017, although I was shocked by the margins.

Fast forward to 2018-19.....The hope was 'addition by subtraction' with the graduation of Newkirk & Johnson...plus an infusion of talent & enthusiasm with Hunter & talent with Romeo, plus Davis being back. Lots of reasons for optimism. The big question to me was what Miller was going to be able to get out of Green & Smith. It was obvious that both needed an attitude adjustment. Would it happen?

Unfortunately not. Stat-wise, no improvement and some decline. Green still careless & selfish with the ball. Brainless passing and shooting. Smith still plays hard only when he feels like it, which seems to be about every third game. Miller praises them off & on, especially Smith, but whatever motivations he has tried do not work. The play of those two guys, and injuries, leads to the point where Miller says after the Iowa game: "I wasn't terribly disappointed with our team tonight".

To me, that was a wtf comment. To be fair, he explained in some detail why Iowa won & IU lost.....in isolation, his comments made sense. But they won't fly when you're fresh off a seven game losing streak, and you are talking about errors and omissions, but you never discuss the reasons for those continuing issues.....inattention to detail and lack of sustained effort.

Which finally leads me to what I see as the bottom line question.......how, exactly, is CAM going to deal with Smith & Green going forward? It's been 2 & 3 years, respectively. The positive approach hasn't worked. Do you cut bait after the year? Or do you continue to chase their "potential" for one more year?

I admit that the call is harder with Smith, because he has been effective more frequently than Green. But how long do you continue to give major minutes to a player who shows up 1/3 of the time?

Very difficult choice for CAM. I personally hope both are gone by next fall, but CAM is paid $3.5M to make the right call.
green gets pulled all the time for doing his stupid sh!t. the obvious problem is miller has precious few options

So if they all had crewcuts they would be better basketball players? The military needs standards because half of the
what's the deal with being concerned about hair...

Are you bald and jealous?
I am bald and jealous. I doubt if these guys had crewcuts they'd be playing any better. I think they need better play from upper class men.

no offense works without shooters

Even though I fall in one of those categories, I think you've hit the nail on the head.

What does the football program being bad have anything to do with our hoops team sucking? We spend plenty of money on basketball. We have elite resources and a top 10 paid coach. We just keep making baffling hires.

I would agree with all the hires up to Archie. Are you including Archie?

Dipshits? Boneheads? Numbnuts? Dumbasses? Losers? Got to be one of them . . .
