After flirting with hosting games in the NCAAs before the Maryland series, IU fell to a 2-seed which was expected in their projections. Instead of heading to Lexington or Nashville, they now have them in the Winston-Salem Regional, and that would put IU in the regional with the top team in the tournament per their projections. They continue to have three B1G teams in field with Maryland being a 2-seed and Iowa being a 3-seed. They have Rutgers among their first five teams out.

I saw some stats on Maryland today that are pretty incredible. Maryland is scorching hot right now, scoring 10 or more runs in 13 of the last 15 games. The Terps are leading the country in runs (477), walks (324), and they’re second nationally in home runs (109) and slugging (.580). The Terps' Luke Shiliger leads the country in walks with 51. SS Matt Shaw is tied in the B1G for the home run lead with 20 and he has broken the Terps home run record with 49 homers so far. 3B Nick Lorusso leads the country with 84 RBIs. Their weekend pitching rotation has shown some cracks of late, but with the hitting that is going on with the Terps, they have been close to unbeatable of late. The Huskers managed to win a game from them in a high scoring game. With series left with Minnesota and at PSU you can pretty much pencil them in as the top seed in the B1G tournament and the regular season champions, but they still have to close it out.

Maryland came into this season a heavy favorite to win the B1G after returning the bulk of their team from last season. Last season they were 48-14 and 18-5 in the B1G last season, but they didn't win the B1G tournament with IU handing them their 2nd loss in the tournament to eliminate them, 6-4 in 11 innings. Maryland also hosted a regional last season with UConn winning their regional.

Maryland will certainly take some big hits in the upcoming MLB draft with a player or two that might go in the 1st round with Matt Shaw the most likely, so they will probably fall back closer to the pack in the B1G next season, but it's been a big run for them.

With those gaudy stats MD would seem to be underrated at 23.

The B1G is 6th in conference RPI and that tempers Maryland's ranking with a lot of their stats against competition in a lower ranking conference. The cracks that have started to show in their weekend pitching rotation really showed itself in the loss to Minnesota last night when they couldn't overcome the 10 runs scored by the Gophers.
