Are Trump's beautiful tariffs

Why would China want to release the Covid virus into the world, including harming themselves?

China's GDP fell by 9% in the March quarter of 2020 – the largest quarterly decline in decades – as authorities shut down large parts of the economy in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

I suggest you buy more tin foil.
Uh, it was released in the 4th quarter, 2019. There is evidence now that US lab workers brought it back then,

I didn't say China WANTED to release it. I said they did release it, and anyone with a functioning brain realizes that.

Zakaria points out in the first term there were a lot of excemptions and carved outs to the tariffs, and companies that had contributed to Democrats were denied more often.

I thought MAGA stood in opposition to rent seeking? As I have suggested, they just want the swamp filled with different monsters

Note in the story that Vietnam, trying to win a deal, announced approval of a Trump project in Vietnam. Just different monsters

Watch it, it is worth it. If we don't have tariffs, there cannot be exemptions and thus no opportunity to profit from exemptions.

Gaza? Are you trying to divert discussions from China? What does Gaza have to do with China?

The world's media is in Gaza, reporting everything. The media doesn't have that ability in China. Once again, you are using false equivalency.

When did the Uighars massacre Chinese at a music festival and in their homes? There is no genocide in Gaza - leftists love to throw that term around. There are unfortunation deaths, due to Hamas military hiding among the population. I think you'd be hard to find and normal person defining that as 'genocide'.

However, the US government sees the situation differently in China. Is this a 'handful of people'?

From the Director of National Intelligence. Pre-Trump, by the way.

UYGHUR GENOCIDEIn 2014, Beijing launched the “Strike Hard Campaign Against Violent Terrorism” toeradicate religious extremism from Turkic Muslim communities—building on policies andpractices to suppress cultural identity in the Xinjiang region since the 1950s. This ongoingcampaign includes mass incarceration and forced labor, suppression of Uyghur religiouspractices, political indoctrination, torture, sexual violence, forced sterilization, forcedcontraception, forced abortion, and family separations, according to reports from formerdetainees, victims, and human rights nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). The PRCemploys a robust surveillance network to enforce its policies, including use of facial recognitionand biometric technology to track individuals, GPS tracking of vehicles, and requirements tomonitor Uyghurs’ activities.

”moral equivalence” gets thrown around an awful lot on this board, but that is at root, everyone of Sglow’s posts.

Guys like you and me are comfortable saying some cultures are better than others and some forms of government are better than others and no amount of history, geography or other societal nuance can change that.

Sglow can’t bring himself to say as much. From the Soviet Union to the modern day CCP American adversaries have always retreated to the motte of pointing out the history of American racial strife. It’s irrelevant and should be ignored in the context of discussing abuses by those regimes.

America is the most self-reflective and self critical society in the world minus maybe the Brits who seem intent on self-flagellating themselves for their colonialist past to the point of destruction. No criticisms levied by Europeans and Asians are anything Americans haven’t vigorously wrestled with among themselves.

I had a German friend - very nice girl - who told me that their past wasn't unlike our treatment of native Americans.

I said it was that was 150 years ago and that the US had stopped forcing them onto reservations a long time ago and that those reservations are self-governing and semi-autonomous areas.

That's a big difference, especially when you consider if Germany had won the war, there would be no Jews left to put in camps.

You're exactly right - western countries have questionable histories and make mistakes. But we are self-reflective and efforts are made to correct those mistakes.

Why don't you bring up Gaza? There's an ongoing genocide if yu are not aware? A couple of hundred thousand people dead or injured, including women and children so far.
If Israel wanted to wipe out the Palestinians in Gaza it would have been completed in months.
Speaking of genocide, do you have a problem with "From the river to the sea."?
Did your Muslim pals have any issues with the October 7th attack?

That's the thing, Jet, if you have never lived in environments outside your native domain, you will see everything in black & white. Its human nature. Heck, the entire political system has been designed in such a way where people are distracted into looking at my team versus your team.

When you have been fortunate enough to have lived in multiple foreign environments as I have, it's more nuanced, as an infamous poster here loves to say.

Everything has been gamified. It's almost like IU v Purdue and the visceral reaction one gets when it's about the other side.

The problem is that everything is binary. Unfortunately, real life isnt.

Yet everyone has been indoctrinated to think in a binary way.

Life is murky!

Right and wrong isn’t always clear.

Another brilliant observation. You pick that up in Malaysia?

Shit happens. There are multiple theroies inc;uding the US labs that released it. I am not so focused on it since a minoin like myself has zero access to any information. Hell, we still have different theories on who actually killed JFK despite the release of information recently.

Besides, instead of looking at who is to blame -- as others have pointed out, the US has been guilty of other pandemics too if it's based on your principle – we should be focused on the next pandemic.

They are more likely zoonotic in nature.

It's as clear as your moniker, right? It's just infantile to think that everything is so binary.

In every war both sides think they are right. So what gives?

Its only the indoctrinated who think otherwise.

Governments start wars. Not people.

I think, actually I know, the people in China and North Korea and Russia and Iran are great people for the most part.

Those governments suck and are violent assholes.

All governments have blood on their hands. You don't need to look for this either. But somehow we seem to forget this when we start comparing them.

Governments comprise humans – not some political structure or philosophy. And therefore will be inherently flawed. See the seven deadly sins.

All of them are --- from the different shades of mixed economies to more hermit-like ones like North Korea.

There you go again. Moral equivalence. FYI a government, is a political structure.

The U.S. has a better governmental structure than China. Full stop.

The people that fill the government are better than the people in the CCP. Full stop.

I say this as someone that pretty much exclusively derides the U.S. government on this board every day.

The fact that you can’t admit as much in the name of playing “devils advocate” or just because you’re truly warped in your thinking is troubling.

Sometimes it is binary. The Chinese are thieves, intent on undermining the US & its citizens. You claim to understand things in such a nuanced way, but consistently confuse self interest & the desire to protect what’s ours with indoctrination. Of course it’s visceral, would you not see someone always stealing from you as your enemy? Constantly stumping for the CCP to a group of Americans doesn’t make you nuanced, it just makes you a shill with disdain for our country.

China, with its billion people, and superior IQ population still can’t innovate on the level of the U.S.

How embarrassing for them. They need to steal. That’s what happens when overbearing governments snuff out all creativity and expression.

It’s estimated their theft cost the US $500 billion every year, but agent @sglowrider says that I only see China as the enemy is because I’m indoctrinated.🤣 It is of some solace knowing that we continue to undermine them with regards to Taiwan & the grief that helping them remain a free independent nation causes Chy-na….

Shit does happen, but shit was covered up until it couldn't be covered up anymore.

The fact you think it's unimportant to look at who is to blame shows your bias. If this had happened in the US and it was covered up, I doubt you'd feel the same. The fact you bring up the Spanish Flu is disingenuous. In what US lab did the Spanish Flu escape from?

So I guess for you video evidence is meaningless in principle?
Evidence of what? How does one shapshot of some places prove anything? You think Russia can't put together a video of happy places in Russia?

I like disclosure reports from Congress. Check out who bought a bunch of stock right before Trump's pause on tariffs caused the stock market to bounce up pretty "bigly."

Insider training?
Martha Stewart spent time in prison because she listened and acted upon a friend's advice. The friend was the insider not Stewart.
MTG, and any other congressional employees making trades immediately before the announcement, should at least be investigated.
