Archie shade

Somebody who had won at a power 5 school. Fred talked about winning championships and then hires the mid major flavor of the month. Word is he interviewed nobody else. I never liked it thought it was a super risky hire and it was. Fred should be the last guy hiring our bbal coach.
Understood. But who specifically was a realistic candidate at the time that would’ve had mutual interest (besides Alford)? It seems like the IU job isn’t as coveted as it once was; however, hoping Woodson changes that.

and I agree. And actual interview process would’ve been prudent - but it seemed like a great hire at the time.

And to think this board followed him blindly like a cult for 3 years…
Three years??

Now Feypee your previous mantra was nine years, then six years. Now it is three? You have obviously been heavily influenced by feedback from your earlier laughable posts

He’s referring to AM. See, there was an AM cult, too, hard on the heels of the one previous. Fortunately we have Feepaw around to pull back the curtains.

From what I understood fred only reached out to miller. So we will never know if coaches like drew or holtman had any interest.

Yeah that’s what everyone says. People say Holtmann never would’ve come to IU and seems like half of the fan base despises Drew.

but whatever. Here we are. Woody won’t be here super long - so IU will be looking for a new coach in time.

At the time, who else would people have wanted hired? Obviously didn’t work out, but it seemed like a great hire at the time.
Don't they all seem like great hires at the time? It stems from man's basic nature, his inherent optimism, the hope that accompanies change. Hindsight is the vision, the daze of future passed, lost in hope by the present day reality of unfilled dreams. It's really quite simple when basic elements are exposed.

Hope springs eternal!!!

Nobody ever said Holtmann wouldn't have come to IU. He obviously would have. He would have cost about the same as Miller, and his track record was worse.

It's just basketball man.
I was as die hard as they come in 80's thru mid 90's (76 was a bit before I realized). I knew when Knight was gone from whatever reason IU was going to be down. IU was pretty much the center of College BBall talk from 75-95 and a lot was Knight polarizing like no other. Espn was starting but can you imaging Knight in his prime with the guys he had in this age? There will never be another RMK ever ............K at Duke ? He got a lot of help . His early yrs at Duke were good but he fell into the system. Just who exactly do you think IU was going to get? Woodson obviously at least has better ppl skills, Better motivator to a degree. i have said before RMK was lightning in a bottle, perfect coach, perfect time and the right players in Ohio Illinois and Indiana that he could recruit. Indiana HS coaches start running his offense and the players were there at the time. Archie was the wrong guy obviously. It was an uphill battle for anyone to stand up to a legacy. Ucla hasnt just set the world on fire after Wooden and he wasnt nearly the coach RMK was.
Sam Gilbert's ghost says hello..

I'll admit to being on board with the Archie hire; mainly because I followed his Dayton teams and looked forward to the possibility that IU might once again experience some similar success in the NCAA tournament. However, once the repeated and lengthy losing streaks became the norm I knew Archie could not last long at IU.

IU's fanbase was splintered (and rightfully so) by the entire fiasco when Coach Knight was fired. Now, IU fans seem split on any decision/hiring that takes place. Coach Allen was hired and immediately there were posts calling him a "high school" coach. Coach Woodson was hired and before mid-season there were posts claiming he is in over his head and that he can't relate to the college game. I understand opinions are like assholes and we all have one; many show up on social media and fan forums to moon us all. If ALL IU fans are truly interested and invested in helping bring our historic basketball program back to prominence, I think this splintered fan base will need to find common ground to reunite. I'm not saying we must all kneel at Woody's feet as the savior, but we certainly should give him his shot at reviving the program; with an understanding that we all make mistakes and he may make a few too and still right the ship.

I for one am glad I can listen to coach being interviewed after a game without cringing. I'm glad he looks composed and pensive on the sideline during the games; not popping gum in his mouth every 5 seconds or frantically tugging at his pants. AND it sure was nice to see IU make an end of season run to salvage their NCAA berth and win a game as opposed to declining an NIT home game to avoid embarrassment.

Split mostly because most of our hires have been boring. People get their hope's up for a big name and we get archie
