Devin not an Archie fan. Only reason I saw this is cuz Hulls liked it. Looks like Jordan not an Archie fan either.

Yeah, it sounds like Devin feels that Archie tanked his future prospects a bit...

That seems consistent with a few things I heard - just terrible people skills to the point where he had little direct contact with players. If a player wanted to communicate something to him, the expectation was that the player go through an assistant coach and any response would be relayed back through the assistant, and vice versa.

I get the feeling that Archie may have pretty severe social anxiety and tried to cope by limiting the direct interaction he had with a lot of people, including players. Although that could certainly be and probably was interpreted as some sort of superiority complex and that players were just his minions.

Unreal hire.

In Archie's defense he recruited Indiana, which is what people wanted, but that ended up being a bust.

Imagine if he was here this past season with the pack-line defense. We would have missed the NIT.

Hopefully we never have to hear the ignorant phrase “lock down the state” ever again.

And to think this board followed him blindly like a cult for 3 years…
How's Billy?

I've been waiting all afternoon to post this because I wanted to be 100% sure. I got a text this morning about it and admittedly I thought it was a rumor at first. I've been waiting to make sure its 100% before posting.
I can say with 100% confidence that Billy and his wife were in Bloomington this morning.
I don't see any scenario where he and his wife come to town and he doesn't take the job. It's happening!!!

And you led the charge. When he replaced Crean you "guaranteed" this board that Archie would be successful. Remember? I sure do.

Now why don't you again tell us again about how much you love UK and the two-time-final four-vacating slimy squid.
Oh, how we should want the UK success, right? That hasn't aged well . . .

He was nicknamed Archie as a child after Archie Bunker and basically used that as his name so maybe his family knew? I don't wish bad things for him, not like we had anything embarrassing happen besides not winning as much as we wanted. He will likely do decently stepping back a bit.

What exactly did he ''do'' to Indiana? He didnt force them to hire him. He didn't win, but I guess I look at it from a standpoint of scandals , Juwan Howard Incidents , that kind of thing. If you were him would you have turned the money down? He didnt have any players in jail later on like Sampson . He just wasn't a success here. No reason to want bad things to happen to him. He didnt leave us on probation . I was a fan of the hire but not after the first year . IU benifits $$ wise from this , he probably learned some stuff.

I think it’s what he *didn’t* do, namely, win. Four years of being losers. And none of us are getting that time back: we’ve all slouched that much closer to the eternal silence of the grave.

It's just basketball man.
I was as die hard as they come in 80's thru mid 90's (76 was a bit before I realized). I knew when Knight was gone from whatever reason IU was going to be down. IU was pretty much the center of College BBall talk from 75-95 and a lot was Knight polarizing like no other. Espn was starting but can you imaging Knight in his prime with the guys he had in this age? There will never be another RMK ever ............K at Duke ? He got a lot of help . His early yrs at Duke were good but he fell into the system. Just who exactly do you think IU was going to get? Woodson obviously at least has better ppl skills, Better motivator to a degree. i have said before RMK was lightning in a bottle, perfect coach, perfect time and the right players in Ohio Illinois and Indiana that he could recruit. Indiana HS coaches start running his offense and the players were there at the time. Archie was the wrong guy obviously. It was an uphill battle for anyone to stand up to a legacy. Ucla hasnt just set the world on fire after Wooden and he wasnt nearly the coach RMK was.

Single. You don’t have money for a double.
When it comes to money and trailers, I could probably buy your entire trailer park. Don’t try that nonsense kid.

Now go out and do some in-depth reporting on the favorite pizza joint by the team. I’m on the edge of my seat for your analysis.

It seemed like Archie didn’t want to deal with all the off-court stuff that comes with the IU job. I’m sure he has other offers, and will in the future, but taking a job like RI seems to suit him perfectly.

Much longer leash. Can “get old and stay old” on his time. Seems like a good fit for both parties.

At the time, who else would people have wanted hired? Obviously didn’t work out, but it seemed like a great hire at the time.

IU certainly learned it’s lesson - hiring from a smaller school works out maybe 1-2 times out of 10.
Somebody who had won at a power 5 school. Fred talked about winning championships and then hires the mid major flavor of the month. Word is he interviewed nobody else. I never liked it thought it was a super risky hire and it was. Fred should be the last guy hiring our bbal coach.
