What confuses me is how many coaches this guys loses. Also, outside of Manny Diaz, who was already a high level coach, none is his assistants have gotten head coaching jobs.I get Penn State is a big program and he would get to coach players that have more athleticism/potential. There is more pressure and career risk there, but he may be up for it. State College is pretty crappy, but a football guy probably doesn't care.
The money probably isn't that different, he's had huge pay increases since coming to IU. I was hoping he was part of the core staff that would keep building here and eventually he would take a HC job and that would be cool.
Who knows. Maybe he is tired of Cignetti, I don't know everything behind the scenes.
Bright side is we have a lot of $ to poach our next DC if he leaves.
Anyone with inside sources that can say if this story has any legs.
I know the fans really want that guy. I think he comes from the PSU family.Word is he's been interviewed along with the safeties coach for the Cleveland Browns, who has ties to Diaz, the former DC, and is an up and comer. These seems like correct rumors. Latest on PSU site is that Franklin is in LA talking with the present USC DC. Don't know if that is accurate.

Penn St and Texas will both end the season ranked ahead of IU.Apparently he was just doing his top 5 teams and that was his way of saying IU and Penn State were tied at 4/5
