Here are a few random thoughts. Thanks to Abraxis for sharing his posts. I thought he brought up a lot of good points.

Even though Cavanagh is very direct in his posts, it doesn’t make him less right on this lack of communication regarding injuries. It seems to be a reasonable ask that the university that we support in spirit, time, money, tuition, etc... would at least provide a glimpse of the injury and time table for return if possible.

Lastly, I hope Rob can heal up and get back on the court ASAP. The team needs him. I’m sure he wants to contribute as well. Also, the ball pressure FSU guards put on Purdue was impressive. Tonight’s game should give us a good idea where we stand as the schedule gets considerably tougher.

Florida State plays hard, and I think they will test our will. I’m interested to see how this team responds. It’s clear that Archie has an edge to him, but his team hasn’t demonstrated it the last two years. The exception was Juwan, and Rob shows glimpses.

If I paid for Broadway tickets and one of the leads was not in the show, do I have a right to ask why they were not there? I should just shut up and enjoy what product they put on the floor? Not ask any questions because me knowing isn't going to have them preform any sooner?

I should just continue to pay good money for a product that is bad and have no explanation to why it is bad? Maybe that is why you can get into the Hall for $6 tonight for lower level seats against a ranked team. That hasn't happened in the history of Assembly Hall. If we lose tonight this will be rock bottom for enthusiasm for this program. That is not an opinion, that is a fact.

You can directly correlate enthusiasm to ticket sales and attendance. Tonight will be the worst attended ranked opponent in the history of AH. Maybe some people think it is ok to continually put a bad product on the floor and not tell anyone why the best players continually aren't there. Vast majority have just said peace out!

Tonight is a very very very important game. We really need to win.

Attendance is down everywhere. Fans are noticing it at every venue. Kentucky fans had several threads about it too. It's not just an IU thing. That's the simple explanation without needing to trash the team.

We are not putting a bad product on the floor. What are you talking about? Again, look around and see other fans complaining about November basketball. Your tunnel vision isn't helping your common sense.
I seriously doubt the fan's enthusiasm will be "rock bottom" if we lose tonight. Sure, some of you are barely hanging in there now, but, it won't be a major loss if a few of you guys decide to move on to another team.

IU players used to walk into opposing arenas with a certain swagger to their gait, coming from knowing they were great. Opposing fans saw it, too, and it pissed them off to no end because there wasn’t anything they could do about it. So, they attacked the coach’s character, unmercifully after awhile, fueled by the media’s feeding frenzy they created. They were bound and determined to bring the man down because they weren’t a part of his success. Sound familiar today? That’s what happens in our survival of the fittest/dog-eat-dog world of social reality, the “New World Order”.

It's because we have an Ath Dept run by an attorney, as it seems the standard for all IU sports. And no Broadway play, nor any institution is going to go into detail about the cause of someone missing a performance/day of work, beyond "they're out sick". Maybe they'd say "flu", but this has been going on for 20+ years now everywhere. Our AD just appears hyper-sensitive about it.

Back in Bob’s day, a lot of basketball fans were whinny despite making the tournament-it wasn’t enough for the new, up-and-coming fans. They expected more, as if privileged to the banners of post season excellence Knight himself had created. It comes with the general feeling of entitlement we see today in nearly all walks of life. It became more important, almost as if trendy, to be socially correct and it caused the tradition of IU basketball dominance, as we once knew of it, to lose our competitive edge, “The General”, who was so adept at instilling the discipline of toughness in his “warrior army”. Today, we hear the sound of eggshells beneath our feet while debating if our team has the mental toughness to make the tournament, our new barometer for success.

IU officials will always have the “late start” excuse on this one, regarding low attendance. I’ll be there for this one, doing my part, FWIW.

I wonder if all the missed time for “injuries” is a knee-jerked reaction to Wilson’s firing, supposedly initiated when it was subsequently revealed he was “forcing” injured players to participate before they were fully healed” Someone had to blow the whistle on him (the whistleblower!). Who was this guy and does he/she/it still walk the athletic hallways physically, or if not, spiritually? Is it a paranoid team physician or IU attorney being too cautious now? Is it...dare I say....no, I’m not going to go there because I don’t think the same thing is happening to other teams, so it’s not a generational age thing we’ve created with wanton radar lovers.

It is frustrating though, the relatively new need for secrecy. This whole HIPPA code of silence was initiated as a result of gay sex, the AIDS epidemic, which was slow to gain attention until it started to spill over into the more general heterogeneous population. Ironically, it protected AIDS sufferers from being ostracized in public as if leper’s, but have sex afterwards with a female and you can get thrown in jail for not publicizing it to your unsuspecting partner. What’s up with that double standard? We can get online to see which of our neighbors has been caught peeking at kiddy porn, but not who has been diagnosed with a potentially deadly disease transmitted through one of the strongest forces in the universe, the desire to have sex with nearly anyone and everyone.

I wonder if the term I used, “gay sex” will trigger this post to get taken down as “ inappropriate”? If so, it just goes to show how twisted this current society has let itself become.

I think the issue goes well beyond lawyers and HIPAA.

I think rightfully so there has been a newfound sense of player health and safety, and goes beyond things like concussions. In many cases, I think what is holding players out are things that athletes would have just played through in the "old days" and thus there was no point in giving public updates. However, that mentality of playing through it resulted in many of those athletes developing serious issues with knees, backs, hips, etc as they get older. Does a 19 year old really need to put themselves at risk for a chronic back injury just so some middle aged fans can get their jollies?

I also think that treatments and therapies have improved significantly to where some injuries that would have previously been season-enders are now manageable enough so that the athletes can return to games. But the road back to games is frequently up and down, and ability to play will fluctuate greatly as the season goes along, creating a lot of uncertainty.

And generally speaking, there are just a lot of unknowns. Even if more detailed injury information was provided with estimated return timetables, many of those currently complaining would still do so if those timetables proved incorrect.

It is baffling that you think you are entitled to other people's medical information. My employer pays the entire premium for my health insurance. They also pay all of my salary, thus enabling me to pay for anything that I need. But it certainly doesn't give them the right to know anything about any of my medical information, no matter how major or how insignificant it is. It's none of their business and thankfully, its against the law.

Hardly, I'm a 50 year fan. But there are other things to do. I used to watch a lot of MLB. After the last strike, I haven't watched a complete MLB game. As you get older, your BS tolerance decreases. I can't imagine that with IU basketball, but I'm already a lot less interested than I used to be.

I remember attending Knight’s Farewell Address To The Students in Dunn Meadow. There really were black helicopters hovering overhead. I’ll never forget overhearing a young coed there tell her friend, “I’m just here because my dad told me to be sure not to miss it.”

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, but I still think it’s related to the fear of potential lawsuits from bringing an injured kid back too soon. Too many people are in need of money, including the attorneys needing to flaunt their expensive lifestyles as if food for their egos. “Image is everything!” when it comes to Andre Agassi selling cameras and attorneys.
