I think it's been said Larry passed Knight walking , said hello and Knight just kept on walking was about their only interaction. Hindsight and who knows how all of basketball might be different? Bird likely doesn't score like he did at ISU, is in a different draft and likely doesnt end up with the Celtics either

So he's just an important cog of a well oiled machine-like team. It means he doesn't score nearly as much but assists more. He plays multiple years here, winning multiple national championships. Whatever, merely stating in time machines of fiction how small things can change history..............NBA was dying the championship was on CBS tape delay. if it wasnt Celts Lakers Magic vs Bird on those teams and Bird ends up in KC or some other destitute franchise that doesnt trade a sleepy Purdue player for Robert Parish and Mchale to play with him the next yr . My own view has always been Bird was better off at ISU . Its hard telling how he Knight do together and love both but I dont see how the total pages of basketball history could have come out better? IU may have won another championship ? Honestly I dont think Bird and Knight meshing that well. Maybe fishing but that is my Take. Isiah was a different personality obvious the 2 best IU recruits ever.

I choose to believe Knight would have recognized the genius of Larry Bird. His quick adaptation to the college game would have inspired Knight to give him more individual free reign than what he allows other players in his more structured offense, much like he recognized in Isiah.
