Announcement from IU Coming Soon

Does sports work like politics in this regard, do you think?

Sports is a hobby/leisure interest that seems like the exact sort of thing people *will* take note of on a weekend night.
Sports and politics are a lot alike. People pick sides, and follow their specific teams/issues and mostly don't care about any others, and at the end of they day they have very liitle influence or control over any of it.

Looks like he is coaching out the rest of the season. I hope IU fans treat the situation with class. He has rubbed some people wrong but fans can still show class and be the best possible fans for the rest of the year...while praying for the right leader going forward. Woody wasn't the perfect fit for the program but he was better than average in some ways too.

Oh, for sure about the last. I don’t think, however, that canning Woody on a Friday afternoon means that those who are invested in IU basketball are going to just shrug it off because discussing/thinking about it will ruin their weekend.

No he was not he was horrible given the resources and money he was given. Cannot you not just admit he was a lousy coach?

friday night veto-friday night news dump. Not exactly an act of bravery.
I hope the crowd keeps the high road tomorrow....don't dump on CMW, and don't put May on a pedestal.

In what ways was he better than average considering he was basically catastrophic?

Harelson
Mullins
Mcneeley

The use of Ballo

6 million dollar roster

Xavier Johnson

Dismissing D Fife, Thad Matta.

Dusty May right there for the taking.

Miami running over us in the tournament

The blowouts

Down 40 to Louisville and their new coach 5 or so games into the season

Picked to finish 2nd in the BIG this year and being forced out with 8 games to go.

The Maryland fire drill.

He was basically the worst hire on any conceivable notion. So bad that we can all agree no matter who we hire next will be better.

I asked for this exact approach no longer than 2 days ago...but even I'm kind of rolling my eyes at that statement. Ha ha.

Hopefully Woodson actually is "on board" with this, and if not, he's good at pretending to be.
i wonder how much cash he walks away with

enough to soothe his ego?

I’m almost positive he isn’t and he is pretending.

Giving him the mic on Senior Night is going to test the non-disparagement clause in his separation agreement.

Seems pretty likely to me too. The 9 or 10 post game comments, and the senior speeches will be pretty interesting.

Also if he does end up making a statement or having a presser on it himself...meaning Woodson.

He should never have been hired. He was overconfident, and oversold. He apparently rejected most efforts to help. He got paid a lot of money, he'll be fine. I'll accept that socially he might be a very nice guy, but that's irrelevant.

Man I was hoping he would be gone today. He will be embarrassed sunday when Dusty May gets a standing ovation.
He is still going to get booed most likely. That puff piece they put out this afternoon does not change anything. He is still a horrible coach with the biggest ego I have ever seen.

You gotta try real hard to make a hire as awful as woodson was.

I'm now much more excited to watch the game tomorrow. And I now actively want IU to win every one of their remaining games. I'm sure he'll still get some boos, depending on how the team plays. But if we play well, there will be some renewed energy in the building. I bet the students show up in full force tomorrow.

You’re missing the point. It’s time to look to the future and handle the rest of the season with class. I was ready for the change too. It’s just time to root for IU basketball going forward.

I forget who had my initial grade of C+ in their signature for a while...maybe they did it because my grade was too high?! I still think it was a C - ish grade hire. He did stabilize the program for a bit. He did help heal some wounds with the RMK family and people.
by far the most successful thing he did here was

convincing TJD to stay

He kept the team together when hired. He recruited JHS and Ware. (I know Ware was portal but I do think MW 'recruited' him)
Otherwise, a bust.

Yeah it's done. Time to move forward. But not forget the lessons learned.

He healed some wounds with his old buddies while turning off many fans and newer players. Guys like Brian Evans cannot stand him. He did not unite the fan base or former players as a whole only select groups. What good did healing some ego's of his old buddies do the program is not in good shape now. But hey we finally got an IU guys so I hope we can finally be done with that experiment forever.

Given the resources and money he was given a D would be the best I would give him.

Pure horse manure.
"At an appropriate time, Coach Woodson will articulate his feelings about his decision and his experiences these last four years."

Is that what he's going to say to Fisch and the TV announcers on Saturday? "I'll address that at the appropriate time." He's going to have to say something, because he will be asked...

Funny in that I agree with every single thing you have typed and I still think Archie was worse.... No tournament appearances for Archie, losing to Fort Wayne and Indiana State - 10 games under .500 in Big Ten - they were both catastrophic - oh well onwards and upwards (I hope)

Good questions...I suspect, if Dolson can get this next hire right... 5 years from now, we'll look back at the Woodson years and associate it with TJD, and him helping put some closure on the RMK ghosts. Obviously most of us won't forget the crap basketball, and the ego stuff, but it'll largely be forgiven when/if we get someone good and the program moves forward and becomes relevant again.

Maybe not though? I've personally already softened my view of him, as an example.
