Trump wants to reopen it. Hope it’s fake news. Leave it as a tourist site and movie location

Trump needs to take a tour of ADX Florence if he thinks we need a secure prison

Only if we can get Vicki back:

He's trolling...

His third term gag has run its course and now he's looking for another gag to get the opposition back up in arms...

One of his weaker efforts but it's certain to hook a few of them...

***Major Edit:

I take it back... It sounds like he's serious...

This sounds like one of his late night/early morning brainstorms that's gone off the rails... Hopefully someone will give him the asbestos removal estimates along with the other renovation costs and nip this in the bud... He probably dropped off watching a rerun of The Rock and awoke believing it was meant to be...

Another Edit:
It looks like this was actually one of Don Jr.s hair brained ideas...

This sort of thing is the worst of Trump but I'll still take it over the last group of clowns we had in there pretending their boss wasn't cognitively impaired while using autopen to run things...

If he wants to build a new one have him site it in the southeast corner of Colorado... There's not much there but scrub and rattlesnakes...

After him thinking the dude actually had ms13 on his knuckles, I think Trump might actually want to do this.

Idiot.

For $500, Alex, what is the next project for Chip and Joanna Gaines on Fixer Upper?

If you have ever toured Alcatraz, you'd know it's pretty much in ruins at this point. Constantly battered by high winds, salt air, and rain. It would be a super-expensive total rebuild. One that makes no sense at all. So I guess it's a natural for Trump to propose it.

Somebody is going to spend a couple of days worth of investigating and determine that the cost to bring Alcatraz up to code and make it operational will be 4x the cost of constructing a brand new jail facility 150 miles further south that could house twice as many inmates. The boilers / piping in that place is 90 years old and been rusting from the salt air. I've been there for the tour. It's a giant concrete box. It will seriously cost more just to heat it (San Francisco Bay is BLEEPING COLD), then the entire operating cost of a jail the same size on the mainland.

This is a "cant we just nuke the hurricanes" moment. Trump spouting dumb crap that nothing is going to move on.

If he actually stomps his foot and demands that it happen, it will absolutely be justifiable fodder for the democrats to point to as how little Trump actually cares about limiting government spending.

This is a really good example of what Dave Chappelle was talking about when he said "All this mfer's ideas sound like high people ideas. Like, he doesn't think these things through before he tells us. He just tells us what he's thinkin' as soon as it occurs to him. And this shit sounds nuts."

Unfortunately, Trump also doesn't have the self-awareness to do anything about it. Most people, if they knew they were prone to blurting out absurd ideas, would adopt some kind of a filter....or at least run them by a trusted friend or ally for feedback.

At one level, it's comical. But then you remember that he's the most powerful person in the world -- and regularly dealing with major, world-affecting matters.

Remember the Alamo? We should reopen it as an American mission, to convert immigrants into Americans.

My edibles buddy did that triathlon. There are outfits that do guided swims too
The hardest part of that race is the sand ladder during the 8 mile run. The swim is not that difficult unless you're a numbskull 🤣 and forego a wetsuit.

That is a brilliant analogy by Chappelle. Just the thought of reopening Alcatraz as a prison is insane, let alone publicly announcing that you want to do it. At least the idea of annexing Greenland would have some benefit to it (not taking into account all of the negatives). But Alcatraz?!? Spend $200, $300, $500 (?) million or more just to move a couple hundred prisoners from perfectly fine supermax prisons to a crappy little island off the coast? WTF for? Has anyone ever escaped a federal supermax prison in the last 30+ years? Has anyone complained the existing supermax prisons are too cushy and Alcatraz would be a better deterrent to crime or a harsher punishment? The only people it would be a harsher punishment for would be the people who would have to rebuild it and those who have to work there afterwards.

The man has lost his mind.

The Bureau of Prisons operates 120 federal institutions and manages a population of 156,254 people. The average population of Alcatraz during its use was 260 to 275. The facility never reached its listed capacity of 336 prisoners.

Let's be generous and say the rebuild expands it to house 400 prisoners. That is 0.25% of the total that's institutionalized now.

It would likely be way more expensive than any other prison to rebuild and operate, to house 0.25% of the prisoners.

It makes no sense, whatsoever.

You're such a douche.

The worst of the worst criminals were put there. That's what it was meant for.
