Air...Ball

You clowns on here talk about basketball IQ but don't have any yourselves. We can't shoot from outside so it packs the lane and that is why we get blocked so much. If you beat your man there's another there to reject it. It's not that difficult to stop this team when we can't shoot threes.
that's the first sensible thing you have posted. now grow up a little and drop the "clowns" and we won't force you to sit at the kiddie table

yeah and that is because his shot fake is so bad and he needs to learn patience. If you don't get your man in the air don't force it, but kick it back out and start over. I think he tries to do too much and it gets him in trouble. I do agree that he is way too soft with the ball when driving the lane. It does seem that when he drives the lane the ball always gets knocked out of his hands.
because, as you said, everyone backs off into the lane when he catches the ball 20 feet away. he virtually has no way to score except back cuts and put backs

The way our kids chant that even when we are getting blown out like against Michigan is a little embarrassing...it reminded me of a bad Purdue crowd..not the high basketball IQ our fan base used to be known for
Probably because they don't know what winning looks like. I mean we haven't seen it in 20+ years.

Air-Ball Smith

I missed your Air Ball Romeo posts.

And the absolute Romeo should never ever shoot posts when he was around 20% for the season.

I think he's up to around 25% now.

Why aren't we making fun of this? Oh I know why... it's Romeo and he gets special fan treatment.

Damn. I really hope he'd like him to make a couple too. Any one of those short dudes at the end of the bench can shoot 3s - not sure how many of them can make them.

Because Romeo is shooting much better in B1G play, and is a very capable shooter throughout his career. Smith is not a capable or reliable shooter from 3pt range, or really anywhere outside of the lane. Smith should not be shooting 3pt shots, it's the same as a turnover. It's like asking a 5'5" non leaper to dunk, it's an exercise in futility. Romeo is an NBA talent, and Smith is not.

Archie is the coach. He sees Smith in practice, I dont see a good shooting form in games. The ball has almost no chance of going in.

He's only taken 19 all year. Romeo has missed 76 out of 97 attempts.

Smith shot 31% in HS his senior year on around 100 attempts.

Smith shot 30% last year on a very small amount of attempts.

Romeo shot 36% on many more attempts in HS.

But he's Romeo so he needs to shoot more right?

This is why Romeo is a distraction and why were not winning anything with him. The attitude that he should shoot more even though he hasn't earned it while others get crucified. He's waaaay to carefree and frankly not good enough to carry us to wins on his talent alone like guys like Glen Robinson, Gordon, Zeller, etc did...but he has free reign. Our fanbase is Mike Davis and Romeo is Bracey Wright.

If Justin Smith did what Romeo did down the stretch vs Iowa and OSU he would have been absolutely murdered, deservingly so.

But not Romeo. Keep shooting those late game 30 foot step back threes. One of them has got to fall eventually.

Wow. Smith needs to realize his limitations offensively, and come down to reality, and focus on becoming a Dennis Rodman defensive stopper, rebounder, layup or dunk maker. Smith is not a 3pt shooter even if left wide open on purpose by the defense who is "baiting him" to shoot.... and most likely miss. The defense guards the other Hoosier players from the 3pt line, teams do not guard Smith from the 3pt line. What does that tell you? Other teams know Smith can not shoot from 3pt range, and are daring Smith to shoot and miss. Opposing B1G coaches and teams have zero respect for Smith's 3pt shooting. Smith needs to go into the paint and use his 48 vertical to rebound, get tip-ins or dunks, and block shots.

I've always agreed on that take for Smith. He's not a 3 point marksman.

Neither is your boy Romeo.

Instead of shooting 25% on his three's because in your terms is basically just another turnover, he needs to do much more of what he does at an actual elite level...take more shots at the rim, use his freak jumping and length to get more rebounds and dunks and get to the line 8 to 10 times a game.

Stop settling for 30 foot step back three's unless you are open and the defense gives it to you.

Last three games Romeo has tried to be the hero by settling on awful three's with ten to 15 seconds left. All three he's failed, badly.

However when he drove he had success.

Maybe people should stop ripping the dude who has only taken 19 three's total this year and start getting on the dude who has missed 76 out of 97 attempts.

Actually other than being able to score in traffic (which is a huge deal) there's not much difference between Justin and Romeo. Justin is only 6'6". Both have suspect handles, both loaf and have low motors, both are elite athletes, both can be really good defensively when they play hard and both don't pass well or have much vision which means they don't really make the players around them better.

Romeo is a good passer with good vision.
Romeo is guarded no matter he is on the court. Smith is not guarded at all from 3pt range, because opponents know that he can't shoot. Romeo makes others around him better because he actually draws the defense to him and sometimes draws a double team to make Romeo give up the ball to an open teammate. Smith attracts no defender on the perimeter, which HURTS the team, you are playing 4 on 5, when one player is zero threat to score and the opposing team then can double team or sag into the paint so no passes can be made.

Come on makes those around him better?? What with his sterling 1-1 assist to turnover ratio along with our winning record

Hell he was the leader of an Indiana all star team that lost to a completely underwhelmed Kentucky team that broke what a 28 game streak?

He can get buckets on drives which will get him into the league.

He's got the talent to be a more complete dominating player but the reality is he can get buckets in traffic but he's not getting other people open shots or dishing out making opportunities for his team mates.
