Air...Ball

The way our kids chant that even when we are getting blown out like against Michigan is a little embarrassing...it reminded me of a bad Purdue crowd..not the high basketball IQ our fan base used to be known for
How can you expect the students or even younger fans in their 20s to have high basketball IQ? They’ve watched Tom Crean for 9 years and now Archie for 2.

Basketball IQ is something you learn in elementary school..
That's not crap high D1 coaches should have to deal with..
Then it tells you how far behind the 8 ball Archie is dealing with this group...

How can we have multiple players shoot air balls on free throws?? I’m pretty damn sure I’ve never seen that before in my 60 years on this planet.

I was at the Iowa game when one of their players fouled out late in the game after Iowa had it all but won. The students started doing the "left, right, left..." BS with every step he took to the bench. I thought that was pretty weak on their part, seeming how this particular kid had just helped his team beat us.

College basketball this season, at least from my limited perspective, seems like a down year with no teams or players to get real excited about, other than Zion Williamson for Duke.

MK23, good call. Would be interested to know how many air ball FT attempts (Smith, Romeo, Juwan) and FG attempts (Romeo, Green, Smith, Juwan, Fitzner) the Hoosiers have had this year? Its mind boggling how many this team has shot. As for having shots blocked at the rim?? Definitely have a record this year.

Smith 15% 3pt shooter, should not keep firing up bricks when the other team doesn't guard him and then laughs when he takes the shot and misses. When Smith shoots a 3 it's the same result as a turnover.

We've seen a lot of them this year.

Smith shot one a while back (v. Iowa, or perhaps UM) that was something like 4 feet over, and 4 more feet to the north of the goal. Remember that one? I had to laugh when I saw it................

What is bizarre to me is Romeo has a couple of FT air balls this year. I didn't watch him much in HS, but did he shoot any FT air balls as a soph-senior? IT seems like if he had we might have heard more about it (?).

I tried for a while to find his HS shooting %s.....couldn't find them, but someone said he was was a 36% 3 point shooter and 76% FT shooter for his HS career (??). Not knowing for sure, I would guess these #s were about right based on the games I did see.......makes me wonder if he just doesn't feel comfortable shooting in larger arenas? Or maybe his thumb has bothered him more than people think? I know I've never seen as many air ball 3s from an IU player, and it just seems strange as hell.

It’s confidence and rhythm. He doesn’t have a bad stroke. And when you’re not having fun it always hurts your shooting.

Watched Romeo in high school. Seemed like a much more consistent shooter, especially from distance. Sometime near the end of his junior year he had a thumb/wrist injury and his shooting has been different since then. He's worn that tape wrap on his hand all year.Is it something that won't heal? Does it require surgery? Looks like trying to shoot with one of those bowling supports on your wrist.

You clowns on here talk about basketball IQ but don't have any yourselves. We can't shoot from outside so it packs the lane and that is why we get blocked so much. If you beat your man there's another there to reject it. It's not that difficult to stop this team when we can't shoot threes.

I think Smith missing a shot wide right by several feet on an air ball means his shooting mechanics are not sound or repeatable.
I have already said his shooting form sucks. It looks like he brings the ball up and behind his head when he shoots.

You could take a remedial writing course at the Community College or read Basketball For Dummies. Either task would be helpful and more constructive than what you do here.
This is a message board not Comp 101 which I'm sure you took many classes as you were probably an English major. LMAO

Great....so you might skip the writing course but still read Basketball For Dummies. I can deal with you writing like an idiot, but the book might help you from sounding like one. You are wrong about so many things including I wasn’t an English major. I was merely trying to suggest that if your ideas are ignorant and your grammar is horrendous then people won’t take you seriously. If you improve one or the other there may be a chance that you can fool someone with your jibberish.

I'm not big on the chanting. But I did enjoy the Pacers/Lakers game when Brandon Ingram was at the free throw line and the chants said, "Lebron's gonna trade you".

Phenom, last i looked many of the blocked shots haven't been from the help side/2nd defender in the lane, but the primary defender. Especially for the guy who can't drive around anyone without losing the ball. He and his 48" jump somehow gets rejected on point blank put backs by his main defender.

And if you haven't seen air balls by him, I wonder what you've been watching??

yeah and that is because his shot fake is so bad and he needs to learn patience. If you don't get your man in the air don't force it, but kick it back out and start over. I think he tries to do too much and it gets him in trouble. I do agree that he is way too soft with the ball when driving the lane. It does seem that when he drives the lane the ball always gets knocked out of his hands.

I also wonder though, if it has to do with what he did in high school. He may not have been asked to drive with the ball and just used his jumping to score.

Embarrassingly, some at the free throw line....

Not sure when was the last time IU teams shoot less than 70% from Free Throw line two seasons in a row. My guess would be Crean's first two seasons. But they should not be counted anyway.

miller said in a press conference he wants smith shooting 3's. blame miller, not smith
