The son is experiencing his first “bad day”

Had to work 10 hours
Headed out for fun
Car died in middle of worst intersection in town
Fellow humans unkind
Likely a bad engine problem
$$$

My purchase of AAA towing paying off

He will now wait for tow, contemplate life without free transportation

I’m home convalescing from placement of an aortal stent and ureteral stent and kidney stones - all I can do is advise

God works in mysterious ways
Life teaches harshly

Tick tock

Your kid's day sounded like my usual Wednesdays back when.

Thankfully I've not had any days like yours.

Met my kids (23 and 25) up at my Mom's new retirement community. My son just bought his first car that is all his own... and proceeded to find out he'd locked his keys in his car when we were ready to leave. An f bomb fueled tirade proceeded, while I sort of chuckled inside and went and checked with a maintenance guy thinking they may have a slim jim or at least a towing service nearby, as I assume keys locked in cars happen fairly frequently up there. He gave me a #, but the guy was out of town since it was Memorial Day. So, had to drive them 40 minutes back to my house to get his spare key, then back up there, then back home, arriving finally at 11pm, when we were headed out at 8:30 originally.

Experience is truly the best teacher!

When my wife went to the MEPS station to be processed for the Air Force I picked her up in Terre Haute and we ate at the pizza hut. We came to realized I locked the keys in the car. But we were near a car dealership and they had one of those gadgets (whatever they are called) and came over and got the car open. I am thinking that if I had not been lucky we might not have gotten married. I think your son will be ok.

Each stage of life has its pluses and minuses.

So, you got lucky on a date with your future wife before you were married? I hope you used protection!

I'd be curious whether everybody else has had good experiences with AAA.

It once took AAA four hours to get a wrecker to travel about 3-4 miles to my house to give me a jumpstart in the garage. For all you hear about AAA, I have my doubts,

Previously, I had a tow-in insurance rider on my car insurance (about $20-25 per year) and was able to call around to find a service that could come. Then, I'd pay and later get reimbursed by the insurance company. Never had any problems with this system. Certainly never had to wait that long pre-AAA.

Obviously, it would never be fun breaking down at night on a rural highway like, say, I-75 near Knoxville, but I'm not sure how much better AAA can improve things. Sure, AAA knows who they can call, but so does my phone. Thanks in advance.

This one was good. Took less than an hour to arrive.

Whenever I've used AAA for an emergency service reason (locked car, jump, tow, etc...), which admittedly has been rare (maybe 4-5X), it's been pretty prompt and a life saver. I've never waited that long, and doubt more than an hour ever. It's been positive enough that I usually intend to keep it renewed, although I don't always. They've also never given me grief about if it was someone else's car, which is also nice.

Member for 25 yrs. (disclaimer - I pay for the highest level of service & I actually think that matters)

Actually have had great service not only in Indiana & No. Carolina where I have lived, but also in a couple of states (Colorado & Texas) where our son was.

Primarily have used them for tows/jumps throughout the yrs, but have actually used them for currency exchange & travel advice too, though I have never travelled through a trip they set up.

My wife is a bigger fan than me, which is why we keep renewing - LOL.

well, there you go! That's why I said "I intend to keep it renewed..." I don't have a wife anymore, so it doesn't always get done!
