Kurt says its Beard... so he has to be #1 on any of our lists.
But juuussst in case its not. I think McCasland and McCollum should be the other two top candidates, in that order. And that's assuming May signing his UM extension means he's out.

If its one of those coaches, we probably have our guy for the next decade or so. And it'll be the best basketball we've consistently seen since the early 90s.
Why not Otzenberger? Guessing you're ruling him out, but I think he's the best fit for OE/DE, age, experience and no baggage I'm aware of. I'm thinking if Goodman is pushing him so much, it's with TJO's blessing. If he didn't want Goodman saying that, it would stop w a phone call and he'd be saying he's hearing through channels he wouldn't come to IU.
For sure just assuming he wouldn't take it. He'd be a monster at IU. Haven't really looked at his current contract...if he's "allowing" Goodman to push it...could be that he's just trying to get a bigger/better deal at ISU out of it. Everything I've read is that he's very entrenched at ISU. But would love it if it happened.
Supposedly has gotten 2 extensions in the last year or so, and the last one actually lowered his buyout, so I think a 3rd raise seems unlikely. He may be entrenched at ISU, but I think that's likely overblown. I've heard that said cause his wife "is from there". She's not, she's an Aussie and played vball there, and I think he's from WI. Anyway, sounds more realistic than originally thought and certainly a better fit than some of the others in terms of age and experience. Think he's still pretty young.
I would replace Beard with TJ Otzelberger on your list (IUNorth) and I like the other two as well (not opposed to slipping Lloyd in after TJ though).
I see TJ as a safer, and better, alternative to Beard. His teams play tough defense, have a better offense and it seems he could handle the position.

Ordinarily I would assume there’s no way someone like Lloyd would leave a situation like Arizona for IU, but I’m not sure any of us know yet how much of a a factor revenue-sharing and NIL $$ will be from now on
I think we can all agree on the basics. Someone that brings a culture of playing their guts out on both ends. If not a55 meet seat. Then, identifying and getting the players that fit that culture, hs and portal. That has to be our foundation.
True. NIL/revenue-sharing and being in one of the two main conferences are distinct advantages for IU.
Regarding McCasland, the more I learn about him the more appealing he gets. However, I’m also learning how solid his situation is at TT in regards to NIL and his earning potential there. Would conference affiliation and a program like IU be enough to get him to leave?
I don’t know about IU specifically but I don’t expect McCasland to stay at Tech indefinitely, even if Texas hires someone else. I think at some point he’ll likely end up in the B1G, SEC or somewhere like Kansas or UNC.
Sniffing around, eh? You could be right. Perhaps they renegotiated his contract in order to lower/change the buyout, as Dolson did with Woody.

North, don't weenie out on pushing McCullom. He' now 25 and 3 at Drake......last year they were 28 and 7 with DeVries, who I also like, and 27-8 the previous year, but that was with Tucker DeVries, 2x PoY in the conference....I really feel like he could win games here like Bo Ryan did at Wisconsin....74%. In other words, he just has a knack at winning games by being competent. He'd be my #1a with Drew if we can't get Stevens, May, Beard, Pearl. The ONLY problem with him is can he win the PC, as he does come off boring. But with boring is solid as hell and he looks like a good person as well.
Edit....He'd be perfect for Iowa. If he goes there he wins 70% or more, but he does better here.

How do you list that many guys and not list TJO? You have a gripe w his style, oversight or you're assuming we can't get him, but still list Stevens and May?
I think the concern that has been raised with McCollum is glacial offense and its impact on recruiting and fans nodding off during the game.
He may end up being great but I don’t like how similar it would be to the Archie hire. Everyone seems to wins at Drake.
I haven't adjusted to him being on the radar since his buy out was previously said to be so high. He's been a head coach 9 years. His first 7 weren't all that great, but he's 50-14 the last 2 years, which is impressive in that league. He seems amiable in his public comments. I'd have him as a next level guy with DeVries after Stevens, May, Beard, Pearl, Drew & McCollum. I feel like McCollum is like Cig.....just smarter than anyone else, and those other guys have the "it" factor a little more and have longer records of success. I'm not into McCasland too much because I think he's a Texas guy, kinda like Few is a NW guy.
Archie had the little guy chip-on-his-shoulder vibe which didn't translate into higher level bball competition. McCollum has a level of calmness and confidence that Archie lacked, imo.
My present list would be Stevens; May; Beard; Pearl; Drew; McCullom; DeVries; Otzelberger; Few; McCasland; Cronin; Byington; Shertz; Brownell; Buzz.
Curious, what if McCasland is open and willing to coach at IU? How do you like him then? Thanks.
