after dinner, will let you know

Defense wins championships.
In football ... sure. That's where that saying originated..

In basketball elite offense wins chips, both in NCAA and NBA and that has been proven without a single bit of doubt.

Teams have to be good defensively but ... they have to be elite offensively. Basically a majority of champions... a vast majority .. were 3% offense, 10% defense.

30 sec shot clock era ..
Uconn 1/4
Uconn 3/7
Kansas 6/17
Baylor 2/22 (pre tourney it was in the 40s)
Virginia 2/5
Villanova 1/11
UNC 9/11
Villanova 3/5
Duke 3/11

RMK 3 championships with D and motion offense. Our defense strangled opponents and we rarely had a close game. Undefeated in conference 2 years in a row. May never happen again.

I get it trail, you're just too dumb to talk to and don't understand or comprehend simple elementary math.

I think you are right. My question is, hs Beard ever been at a place where he can get elite athletes to have an elite offense? Texas probably, but he was let go 8 games into his second year.

I followed basketball nationally for the last 40 years and have noticed that a vast majority of champions have had an offense in the top 3%...

Beard has never had a offense that good in his whole career. His resume looks similar to Crean, one great run, and a bunch of double digit loss seasons. If he hadn't once sniffed RMK's genius inducing farts we wouldn't even be considering him...

Would he be an improvement? Sure .. but we're not hanging any banners with him running the show, unless he completely changes his philosophy. Which is doubtful.

Champions have elite offense, defense first teams consistently lose and get upset in tourney play. Some may make it to final four, but they eventually lose to the elite offensive teams.

I thought winning banners was the goal of this program? If so Beard probably isn't the answer. Offense wins banners.
Gonzaga would like to speak with your agent.

Why was he let go again? The one time he could get the elite athletes he couldn't handle the big stage.

Now the flavor is McCollum. I think different donors are pushing and talking about all these guys.
The large donors most of us have access to, have zero influence in this hire. There might be 5 donors that have some influence and they aren’t hobnobbing with fans at games.

I know at least one pretty sizable donor sitting in the chairs on the floor. He’s good a good friend with Dolson. He actually helped me with Dolson to get the seats I have. Dolson doesn’t even give him a hint what he’s thinking about the next coach.

Didn’t mean it like that. I’m just saying that all these guys are talking and saying different things. You asked who.

Sorry didn’t mean to be a smartass.

There’s just no telling what hire Scott pulls out of the hat a few days after the tournament is over or after his guy has lost.

I’m skeptical.

Even if I assume that Kurt has heard accurate info, and his source is at the highest levels of the food chain, I still have doubts.

There is no such thing as a done deal until the ink is dry, and everything is public. Even if IU says it is a done deal that doesn’t make it so. Why??? Because IU could be flat out wrong, things can change, or IU is lying. Could this be a trial balloon to see what the fallout would be??? Could it be a smokescreen to divert attention off of the actual trail? Could it be that Beard has said he would crawl through glass for the job, an offer has been made, and there is a handshake agreement in place? Sure, and I’m pretty confident IU has seen similar arrangements dissolve in recent searches.

While I don’t think donors should guide the decision I guess when you are expecting huge money from them they somewhat need to be on board. Wonder what Cindy Simon Skodt thinks?

Here's another reason why I'm skeptical..........if Beard was the guy Dull Son wanted, wouldn't IU perform a detailed independent investigation of the type kkott is suggesting before it became a "done deal"? And how could that have happened in this case? Aren't there are internet reports that IU did look at Beard before Woodson was hired and too much baggage was found?? Now, perhaps, that did not happen, in which case they would now be starting from scratch. I'm pro-Beard, but it sounds unlikely.

He was a corner jumper away from proving you wrong, in his first 10 years as a D1 coach. His defensive guy is Mark Adam's, but the effort on that end is the culture that he brings. I do tend to lean your way in terms of his offense being a bit bland. There aren't alot of Luke Murray's out there. Anyone I'd rather have is in their 70s.

What makes you think they couldn't/haven't done that. Search firms are hired to do that kind of deep background stuff. They're much like private detectives in that respect.
