NIL is only important if you know how to spend the money wisely. We need to buy winners with character over just talented guys.

Anyone who can’t see this is a major upgrade is not paying attention.
Woodson had no clue how to build a roster.
He just looked to see who the highest ranked players in the portal were and threw money at them.
This guy knows how to build a roster by needs and not the number of stars after his name.
The superior coaching alone will get IU 3-4 more wins next year.

McCollum has more wins this season with mostly D2 kids than DeVries did in any of the 7 seasons he was at Drake.
I think that's what he means.
Personally I preferred McCollum, but oh well, let's see how it goes.
Did you see or hear the press conference? That was one of the big themes. Don't just collect talent, build a roster of players that fit, that are physical, and that want to work hard.
Base all your opinion on a guy who coached one year at the D1 level? I wonder why it took McCollum so long to get a gig being he was so successful at the D2 level?
The aspect stressed in the press conference about being ready to be the CEO of a major college basketball operation is one that seems to show why there might have been more doubt with respect to McCollum. Division II and the MVC for a year, vs. long time assistant at Creighton, then the MVC for many years, then the Big 12 if even for a year shows more of that capability
Tend to agree with this … this stat can look great when “the previous regime” did a horrible job. For instance, they mention Kelsey and what he did at College of Charleston … but at Louisville, Kenny Payne was so bad (19% winning percentage) that Kelsey’s 79% win percentage this year is a 60% improvement.

Loyalty to his Alma mater - he played at NW Missouri State, then was a GA and an assistant coach for 6 years before accepting the head coaching job at NWMS for 15 years. (Learned a lot about this guy last year when my Cards hired Kelsey).
WVU had 6 Quad 1 wins this season. He beat Kansas on their floor. Even with Kansas having a down season for them, that's pretty impressive. They also be Iowa State, Zona and Gonzaga. That's pretty damn good.,
Of course. He also missed the tournament. Didn't Crean have us ranked #3 in the country early in the season he got fired? The whole season and career matter more than 6 good games.
After I saw Bobby fritter away a game Texas Tech should've won against Oklahoma, by sitting on his hands until it was too late and the game was blown (didn't even appear to see it coming...) while Sampson was coaching and working the last few minutes like his life depended on it, I thought "man, wish we could get a guy like that!" feeling Bobby was past it.
So when we got Sampson, I was telling everyone how Sampson was going to be great for us and win titles. I was pumped !!! and I thought Kitchel sounded like a bitchy little whiner. Kitchel was 100% right. And I was wrong.
The guy we wanted was a guy who, like Bobby, cared about the quality of the classes his kids were taking. Sampson cared about the quality of the weed his kids were smoking.
There's a good chance we got both the really good coach and good mentor this time, in Devries.

We knew early on that Beard was a no-go.
Fans will “woulda/coulda/shoulda” forever, but Beard was never gonna happen.
I don't need to be excited about it yet. I did like his approach to practice. Staying sharp and managing their bumps and bruises becomes more important and scrimmage time is less important as the year goes by. I also like his attention to the locker room.
