All this breaking it down into style points is pure BS...

This particular Win was a thing of Gritty Beauty and I'll take one like that every time...

I rewatched the game and although the OL play wasn't perfect, it was 100% better than it was 5 weeks ago... They are still making mistakes but they don't give up on blocks the very second things start to get tough...and they clearly play a Lot harder with Dexter back there...

Here's to our next W any way we can get it...

I also think Shivers looked good. He can’t push the pile by himself, frankly neither could Stevie Scott. But he’s a tough enough runner that can get 5 good yards with some blocking and the speed to house it with great blocking.

Shivers looked better. It's bound to help him that the opposition has to take in account the QB keeper... I still much prefer Henderson as the #1 back..., with Shivers as the change of pace back...

Just curious. Does anybody remember that Michigan State was missing a starting linebacker and it's top four defensive ends along with three other players?

There are IU “fans” on this board that are pissed that we won yesterday.

Weird.

How about the officials, even after replay, didn’t see Dexter’s foot out of bounds on our first touchdown?? I was sitting in the middle of a group of MSU fans. We were all dumbfounded

Yeah, I read where Snow was injured, and the tunnel miscreants were suspended.
We started a walk on at Purdue last year. Didn’t hear Purdue crying for us.
MSU fans were most disappointed, regardless.

If that’s for the attack on UM players in tunnel, oh well. But let’s face it, MSU missed a chip shot to win it. We got very lucky at the end.

I don’t think many of us are fine with where it is. But we don’t want to fire people constantly for not going 10-2 every year.
You certainly wouldn’t fall into that group, but there are definitely people here who regularly make excuses for the perpetual underachieving state of the program. As I’ve said previously, we have the program we’ve demanded and deserved, and some of the posters here embody that attitude of underperformance.

Yabbut …

Some posters (not saying you) want us to act like Michigan when we aren’t, have never been, and cannot be Michigan.

We are IU. We gotta play the hand we are dealt. There ain’t no magic winning dust.

Allen has learned some lessons the hard way the last 2 years. Hiring and firing stinks, buts it’s the most important part of a HC job.

Give Allen some Valium, make him be HC and hire a good OC and DC and give him staff money big enough to make a splash hire and hope it’s Deboer and Wommack re-born, and paddle harder.

We’ve been good and awful. We prefer good. Duh.

Let’s fight our way back.

In 2 years, NIL may be better controlled and the Big 10 might be 20 or might be gone.

For now, under the current circumstances, we either got bet on Allen, or bet against him.

Since I cannot KNOW whether I get COY material to replace him, I’ll play these. In a different year, maybe a different decision. But right now, our problems are portals and checking accounts.

I haven’t seen many posters here who want us to act like we’re Michigan. And that’s a big part of the problem. We think we can continually do less while inexplicably expecting greater results. It makes no sense.

What I do see are posters who continually excuse the underperformance of the program, as well as the leadership that’s led to those results.

You claim Coach Allen has learned some hard lessons, though there’s no evidence of that at all. We continue to do the same things that created one of the “losingest“ programs in NCAA history and then scratch our heads in disbelief as the losses pile up, crowds and program interest dwindle, and recruiting falls off. Like I said, we have the program we’ve demanded and that we deserve And, until we expect and demand more, nothing will change.

Yeah, until Tom Allen starts acting like a legitimate Big 10 coach I have a hard time believing he's learned much of anything.

What does "acting like a legitimate Big 10 coach" even mean? He and PJ Fleck, for example, are basically the same guy in how they act, other than Tom Allen seeming sincere in his rhetoric and an honest believer in what he says while Fleck feels like a slimy snake-oil salesman.

No one could want coach to succeed more than me and I agree with MTIOTF regarding keeping Allen, but he is really hard to swallow sometimes. Why did it take 10 games to finally give Williams a chance when we are struggling on offense every game. Some have blamed Bell for not changing but it the head coach who decides. Why did it take two years to fire Hiller when the OL was killing us.

As a longtime fan I have cringed at the lack of discipline on every team, he has had in his six years. Bad personal foul type penalties and the player committing them continues to play without a moment on the bench. Following the game Saturday, Williams was standing on a bench on the sidelines taunting MSU fans until one of the coaches stopped him. When the head coach is jumping up and down and jumping into the arms of another coach on a fourth down stop in the first quarter it is a little hard to discuss the need for discipline with your players. It is often the little things that win (or lose) games and Coach Allen needs to be a better coach in those little things than he is right now.

Just curious... do we get to make the excuse for Cam missing how many games now and DJ missing games and Camper missing the season and Badley and Holt missing the game at linebacker, effectively leaving us with the two Casey boys and having to start Fitz at one of the backer spots?

Or do we only get to count the other team when they are missing players?

Your BoatRower assessment is accurate. But if you think TA acts like a professional coach ($5M/year makes him a highly paid professional coach) when he's losing his shoe, glasses, headset and basically his mind on every defensive stop during a game, I can't help you. Dude acts like a clown.

Don’t forget losing your best offensive lineman in the second game of the season.

You keep insisting that IU football team lacks discipline. The only true penalty I can remember was the the one that cost them the Maryland game. And I don’t think that one gets called much of the time. It does stand out because it probably cost them the game. Next as far as CTA ‘s enthusiasm I believe it is the reason why his players love him. Another problem he has is his loyalty to his people. He was slow to fire Hiller. He may be slow to change personnel. But who knows we don’t see what he and other coaches see in practices. Finally as far as a coaches running up and down the sideline I seem to remember Lee Corso being the same way. People loved him. Also Terry Hoepner was a very fiery and enthusiastic coach on the sideline. I remember when he was the defensive coordinator at Franklin and we had just given up a bunch of yards in a loss at Carson Newman. The following week at practice we had some NFL scouts at practice watching a couple of guys. We we the scout offense were beating the defense. He proceeded to rip up the scout cards and match off the field yelling and screaming some very choice words,
