A Reddit Post/Article in /cfb Said IU Student Government Voted "Bison" In November

Article -

Has some pics of the old bison mascot costume - which I would not wish on an enemy

A guy in candy-stripes, a block I shirt and an airy cool bison head would be fine.

Live one? No thanks - these boys get crazy:

My Avatar approves this message (with one adjustment: he'd like to have the flames coming out of his nostrils rather than his eyes 😉😎).

I’m all in.
My parents had IU memorabilia all over the basement and the bison image was on many of them. Posters. Game day programs. Going back to the 60s.
Agree to disagree but always thought that not having a mascot was a school that was out of touch. Others said it made us unique.

In the current conference format, I’m trying to think of what teams don’t have a mascot at their football games.

  • IU
  • Illinois - was too offensive to honor an Indian chief apparently
  • Michigan - actually has no official mascot. The fans endorse the wolverine and there were petitions to make it an official mascot but the university denied all these attempts and deemed it “beneath” the university to officially claim a mascot.
I think that’s it. 3 of the 18 teams with no mascots in attendance at games.
