8 Shots

This is an unbelievable comparison.

So a team led by the national player of the year, #1 pick in the draft paired with a high scoring freshman and surrounded by a small rebuild roster following the 76 monster, coached by one of the greatest coaches of all time would go 9-9 in the conference and 14-13 overall (I'm assuming a team like Minny had to forfeit all their games after because the record books show a 16-11 record and an 11-7 conference record...but I know it was worse).

Yep, the Gophers beat IU twice, but later forfeited all of their wins.

I thought of it just because I've heard so many player comparisons for Romeo, but Woodson is the player that he most reminded me of. I was pretty young then, so the memory is a bit foggy :)

Woodson was my first favorite player. Loved him!

That 80 team was probably more talented than 81 with Carter, Woodson, Isaiah, Tolbert, Turner, Wittman, Kitchell etc.

A lot of young talent but damn. Too bad Woody had back problems and Turner was so aloof.

My first favorite was Ritter, then May, then Woodson all #42. I was about 5 years old when I became a John Ritter fan and I thought basketball players wore their uniforms all the time. I was always on the lookout for Hoosier basketball and football players wherever we went.

It's funny how even uniform numbers became special.

I remember as a kid I hated Dakich from the start simply because he wore Isaiah's number 11, like he was throwing it in my face that he was gone.

Then to be fair I met Dakich as a kid at the players are forced to meet people end of season banquets and he was cool as hell to me so he became one of my favorites til recently...and it's still hard for me to be 100% pissed at him because he was so nice to me as a kid when he didn't have to be (like half the team). Lol

We have a crap coach who doesn't know how to utilize Romeo’s talents. A damn shame. No five star is going to want to come here now.
LMAO. Dude, you just make shit up based on your hatred. Kid has a lot of work to do, and there are certain attributes this team lacks. But you’re probably too dumb to have a conversation about this.

What's even more amazing is just how much talent was in that freshman class.

Besides Woodson, there was also Butch Carter (hit winning shot in '79 to beat Purdue for NIT title); Glen Grunwald (Only player in Illinois HS history to be named All-State 4 times); Derek Holcomb (6-11 center who later transferred to Illinois); and Mike Miday out of Ohio.

You still had Rich Valavicius (soph) and veteran junior guards Jim Wisman and Wayne Radford.

With a HoF coach, a plethora of talent, Indiana lost 5 of 7 down the stretch. You had injuries, player issues (Miday and Holcomb both had trouble handling Knight).

Very apropos comparison.

Grunwald is a name that I've heard a ton about a tragic injury case. I've heard Bird comparisons with him.

Again no one is or will ever be close to another Bird so maybe Kieth Van Horn is a better comp.

Anyway my dad said Grunwald was a hell of a scoring forward and was 6'9".

He ended up being a power executive in the NBA instead of a playing star as he became a lawyer.

Iowa used a zone most of the night. There wasn't much to drive. Quick passes and cuts without the ball were needed.

He already has the highest usage rate on the team, despite having lower true shooting percentages than Morgan and Durham. His eFG is lower than Smith's as well. You can make the case that he shoots too much...although I think his usage is probably about right. Durham's numbers would be worse if he took as many tough shots as Romeo does.
you just proved you don't know how to play against the zone

Yea cause what IU is doing so far is working so well......
But you think IU’s issues would be solved simply by Romeo taking 23 shots/gm?

Did you ever - EVER - think the issue isn’t as much about the number of shot attempts as opposed to the quality of the shot attempts? Of course you haven’t . . .

No let him shoot more.
