In another thread to this effect, I was comparing our missed player time, through both discipline and injury, with that of Purdue. We've had it much worse in both categories compared with them. Phinisee, Lander, Duncomb, TJD, Galloway, Geronimo, 5 players for discipline at one time, Johnson, Steward separately.
He might not have missed time, but that fall at Nebraska stayed with TJD for a good bit.
Should IU have done better even in spite of the injuries? YES, but there is no denying we were a completely different team with Phin and Galloway playing.
Also, if they were healthy all year, by mid January, Galloway would have been a starter and Phin would have been the team’s 6th man
No way. Not saying they shouldn’t, but CMW never was going to change his starting lineup. The starting player who is losing more overall minutes is Parker. I expect that to continue in The tourney. Those minutes are going to a combination of RP and TG and Kopps minutes are going to Geronimo.
Kopp is a 3. JG is a 4. Comes in as races back up. He’s not losing minutes to JG. JG played the 3 in one game and it was a disaster.

RP & and Galloway still aren't 100%
a healthy Geronimo could have been the difference today
To break it down further.....we are up 6 at the under 4 TO. Something like 3:40 left.
What happens?
-Perkins blows by Galloway for a relatively easy layup and 3 point play. Terrible defensive execution when we needed a stop.
-We miss wide open 3s, two of them I think. Our complete in ability to knock down clutch shots rears its ugly head yet again.
-Bohannon nails a 3. Again lousy defense to leave him open.
-TJD charge. The absolute worst time for that to happen.
In the span of about a minute and a half we blow the 6 point lead and they have possession. We had a lead the whole second half then blow it in a lousy minute and a half. This sequence lost the game for us.
You couldn't script a worse sequence for us. Unbelievable. Reminded me of the O$U meltdown.
We never should have been in the position for the Bohannon prayer heave to beat us but of course we were and of course it goes in. A game we absolutely should have won.
At this point I hope this absurd loss does not relegate us to Dayton and hope the team does not have a bad hangover from this nightmare.
Galloway had worked his way into the starting lineup the last 3 or 4 games before his groin injury, and I was just saying that would have happened a month earlier had he not been out with the wrist injury
You happen to watch any games this week and who was playing significant minutes in those games?
And not just significant total minutes, but the guys on the floor to close out games

Losing at home to Indiana State and the Fort Wayne Mastodons by more than 20 points is a nightmare.
Who can you stand? Indiana basketball = Nebraska football. Totally irrelevant. Fans at both schools are having a terrible time dealing with that FACT. Where is all this Hoosier support during the football season when your stadium looks like most Division 3 stadiums on a Saturday. Can you say Bandwagon?

Interesting how close their attempts are for FGs, 3 pt shots, and FTs. Really not a lot of difference in overall stats. I think we get some value out of Kopp on defense. But Leal could take Stewart’s mins and we would likely be better. Sadly, Woodson isn’t changing that now.
Geronimo is back to 100% next week, so we’ll see lineups with Galloway, Geronimo, and Phinisee where Stewart doesn’t have as much PT.

Bates has shown nothing, if he was a three star recruit no one would want him anywhere near the floor. Leal can’t even get his shot off against college athletes, he’s a roster filler.
You’ve forgotten that he started Galloway before he got hurt the first time.
No offense but you don't know much about basketball. Bates is an athletic player who can create his own shot. He's just a frosh who likely never had to play team defense in AAU or IMG.
Leal is no worse at shooting or getting his shot off than Stewart. And he actually can pass as evidenced by his 9 assists in his 2 starts. Add to that, Leal understands team D after playing 4 years under JR Holmes. If you pay attention, which you obviously don't, you would see how well Leal communicates on D. He's not the most athletic, but neither is Stewart.
And I am not saying to make the change now, but looking back, I think I would have liked to have seen them get more minutes than the other 2. The other 2 are great kids, but mid major at best, IMHO.
You know any teams that didn’t have any injuries this year? It’s basketball. There are ALWAYS injuries. Ours were extremely mild and weren’t even to starters. We got lucky this year on that front.

Yes, several. I know Ivey missed some games. They also had a guy go down for the year with a knee injury. I know the McCaffery boys for Iowa have missed some games. I’m sure they’ve had others. You’re not going to see many teams ever who haven’t had starters miss games throughout the year with injuries.
That's nuts. Who would Bates or Leal have gaurded? Kopp had to play more than any wanted but that's what injuries cause.
Ivey missed 1 game (NW) and Painter had already decided Waddell was going to be a RS before his injury.
Patrick McCaf missed 2 conference games (one of which was NW)
those injuries had nowhere near the impact of extended absences by Phin/Galloway

I haven’t forgotten. Just saying the days of tweaking the starting lineup is over. That ship has sailed. Now, vie the minutes are allocated after opening tip I expect to see a lot of minutes go to Galloway and JG and away from Stewart and to a degree Kopp. Depends on matchup and how he’s playing.
An irrelevant program that, even though it's missed the NCAA Tournament the last 5 years, still had more wins in the tournament (6) than Iowa (4) in the last 10 years. And more Sweet 16s in the same period (3 to Iowa's...ZERO). And more regular season Big 10 titles (2 while Iowa has, checks notes, NONE). You want to talk facts, friendly advice, make sure you get it right.

I think one of the keys of being a top team is staying reasonably healthy and IU hasn't. Not that I think IU is a top team, but injuries along with stupid choices probably cost us 2 games.
PU has stayed healthy (good for them) and allowed them to win the games they should.
Are you shitting me? Who can Stewart guard? He couldn't stop a lamp post ... yet sees plenty of minutes. Furthermore, Leal has a much higher basketball IQ than PS.
