Was lightly listening to a recent 247 portal YouTube vid and they were talking Xavier and Conwell.

They brought up Freemantle coming back and then they also said Jerome Hunter is expected back for his fourth senior season, seventh overall and it blew me away.

So let's pour one out for old Jerome staying healthy in the 24/25 season, which may be his last.

For those with faulty memories like mine, IUs 2018 recruiting class consisted of:

Romeo
Hunter
Damezi
Phinisee
Forrester

who would have thought Jerome hunters basketball career would last longer than Romeo’s. Wild.

I make more money than Romeo now. I remember when everyone was talking about how set he was for life. Hope he saved!

He was given $7M guaranteed.

I'm not questioning your financial prowess as I have no idea, but if you've got $7M put away...good on you. The money you can make off of $7M in investments is a doctor's salary.

And good on Romeo. I'm sure he made other $ as well.

We should all be as unfortunate as Romeo. lol

For sure don't have 7 million put away, but I would wager Romeo does not either!

My wife and I have worked for 20+ years to save up (401Ks, 529s, SEPs, IRAs, our home, etc.) and we do ok, but we are nowhere near what this young man made before his 24th birthday, and we never will be. Nowhere near.

I guess I'm wondering why you are so sure Romeo and his people are utter buffoons with their money.

The statistics and history of young nba players (athletes in general) say he likely didn’t save close to that much.

the statistics of a lottery pick not getting a 2nd contract are pretty low also, maybe he's an outlier. he has a good family and some smart advisors around him, he will be ok.

IIRC his first contract was $17MM. Followed by an Exhibit 10. Plus endorsements.

He is 24, smart and from a smart family. I suspect he will be ok.

well, then shame on the "adults" who bleed these kids dry. FFS, that is generations-changing wealth all before the age you can get off your parents health insurance.

with NIL, these young men need to grow up quick.

Maybe that was all he wanted from the game. Wasted talent, though.
what if he was just overrated to begin with? his problem is he simply a poor shooter. 6 5 athletes are a dime a dozen in the NBA, his high school ranking placed unrealistic expectations on him, smartest thing he done was going after his freshman year, another year at IU he may have gone undrafted, the hand injury actually built him a good excuse.

I met Eric Gordan and his dad...a few of times. We just happened to show up at the same restaurants...I was always super impressed with both of them. Kind, polite, even thoughtful.

100%, he played it to perfection. I just don't understand how anyone would think he was worthy of a lotto pick. The hand thing was the best excuse he could have ever had. I love when IU fans say how lucky we were to have him and he carried us with a broken thumb! They never are able to answer my next question, why did his shooting numbers never improve after the healing of said thumb?

EJ is the man, and way smarter than me financially. I tried to get him to play craps with me and some players in the Bahamas. He was like ya right man Im not donating to the casino. Wish I would have learned that a few 100k ago.

I don't think he was in it for the money, he just got given money for not putting in max effort, and was like, alright alright alright.

Calipari had him on a youth USA team, at the time UK was recruiting him. He didn't play him Romeo got upset and came home they were overseas, Cal knows talent. I knew then he wasn't the next Oscar or even Eric Gordon that he was made out to be. then I watched his final game in High School at clutch time he missed about 5 free throws and was running away from the ball at the end of the game, once again I told everyone he is way overrated. a star demands the ball in those situations and delivers, watch Damon Baileys last high school game.

Then his announcement at New Albany H.S. he was practically laying down in a chair as everyone was declaring him the next Jordan. was the most bizarre ceremony I had ever seen.

I don't think the kid is lazy or has bad character. I think his problem was he peaked out as a high school sophomore. and road the coat tails of that to abut 20 million.

I was one who overrated him, but his skill was shooting on the move. He should have never caught the ball and squared-up on his defender because it took away his advantage. But I thought when he got to the pros they'd fix him.

I felt when he was here he needed to find his inner Kobe. It ain't in there.

$7M after he paid his agent and taxes, that whittles down to $4M. 4%/yr on $4M is $160,000. certainly comfortable but not FU$.

Did he play out his contract?

It’s exhibit 10. He signed a one year deal. It’s 2.165 mill with a bonus. Remember it doesn’t matter if he’s playing in the g league or nba. He still gets that deal.
I think he had to make the team to get the contract. exhibit 10 is worse than a 2-way contract.

saw that Tamar was back in Bloomington, did you hear from him, or was the relationship purely financial.
I never had a relationship with him, other than saying a few words at dinner or when I was with his entire family. Talked with his dad a lot. His dad is just a few years older than me. 44 I think. No, didn't see him. I am in Hilton Head. Overrated. Would love your 1am post on this place.
