2026 Schedule

Looks like only 2 non conference games scheduled currently. Colorado State and UConn. I wonder who will be the 3rd team?
Well, according to Kirk Herbstreit, we better make it a home game vs. Mercer.

In looking at that schedule, only Purdue and Northwestern were not in bowl games this year. It appears to me that those clamoring for an increase in competition in the schedule are going to get their wish. It just takes time as some have said, since these schedules are set years in advance.

I hope it is Louisville or Kentucky. Would like to beat either one. Go Hoosiers!

The smart move is to schedule a Home game with Wyoming in that 2026 out of conference open slot (if, in fact, it is open)...

Picking up another near peer is foolish in the extreme for an early game..., as has been explained, in detail, multiple times on here...

Currently (in 2024) Colorado State was 8-5 (lost their Bowl game) and U Conn was 9-4 (won their Bowl game)... Neither one of those teams should be considered an easy W, or even a sure W... Adding another tough game in the Non-Conference lineup wouldn't be a very bright move...

That Illinois game at home is key. We should be 3-0 but the two after that are @Iowa (haven't won in Iowa since 2007) and @Oregon (our first crack at them in a B1G context and they have a huge NIL warchest).
@Maryland, @Penn State and Whiskey is another tough stretch.

2026
UConn is suddenly good. They won 9 games and their Bowl this year.
We haven't beaten Minnesota since 2007.
Can we finally end the Ohio State streak? It's in Bloomington.
Get a crack at USC

Remember when Florida State had the Sod Cemetary, where they would take chunks of the field back home to Tallahassee after big road wins? I want wins over every B1G school in recent memory so that nobody can scoff when they see us on the schedule anymore.

Mallory used to put the opposition teams helmets in the trophy case with our Winning score written on the glass facing side so all recruits visiting could see who we had beaten... I'd like to see us go back to that and at the end of the season send a photo of the trophy case to all news outlets and any pertinent Playoff and/or Bowl Committees...

Well, I can’t actually decide if that’s badass or cheesy. I’ll defer to Cig on this one. He normally does one badass thing after another.

Playing at Wyoming would be the coolest thing ever! We might be able to get a 2 for 1 on that.

I meant to imply that those games would be our @ Home (INDIANA) game...

The scheduling would probably be best as a 2 for 1 deal (1 @ Their place) however just to get that initial 2026 Home game...

Looking at things more closely it appears that Wyoming might be a serious possibility if we agreed to buyout their Northern Colorado game on 9/12 and give them a big payday they almost couldn't refuse for playing here...

One final time, for those of you who think we need to play 10 - 12 P2 games each year.

WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 7 HOME GAMES EVERY YEAR. OUR B1G SCHEDULE IS STRONG ENOUGH EVERY SINGLE YEAR REGARDLESS OF WHAT ANYONE SAYS. SCHEDULE WARREN CENTRAL, MOELLER AND CENTER GROVE AS THE OOC GAMES; JUST MAKE SURE THEY'RE HOME GAMES.

I agree; if it works for Alabama, it'll work for Indiana.

What's the objective in your scenario? The Peter Puffer Bowl that has 20 opt-outs against Boston College in Charlotte? The CFP? If given the choice between a Pro Bowl-like exhibition game, or a competitive game against a P4 opponent on a college campus, I personally would find that 20x more entertaining. This is entertainment, right? Coach Cig said it is.

UConn coached by Jim Mora, beat UNC, who fired their coach, half the team went portal, and played the 4th string QB.
Not a fair test.

Like the home v. Away break on the ‘26 schedule beats @PSU @Ducks in the ‘25 schedule.
‘26 should be Fernando’s 2nd year in the offense … should have a chance in every away game, even in the big house.

It's only entertaining when:

A) You Win

&

B) You Win enough to play in the post-season

UConn had won 8 games prior to that Bowl win... Mora has turned them around... By "26" that game could very easily be a tough W...
UCLA seems to be a hard place to coach, doesn’t it?
I recall IU losing a noncon game at UCONN once.
(Record is UCONN 2 — IU 1)

My objective?

Wins.

Wins entertain me.

Stack enough wins you go to the CFP. Go to the CFP and you play a top rated team, which will then entertain both of us.

Win/win.

I'm with Chris...

As tough as losing to ND was, it was infinetly better than playing W Illinois.

Playing at Annapolis...fun.

Charlottesville...will be cool.

South Bend again....gonna be a blast.

Add Kentucky...make it a tradition.

UConn and CSU ain't bad...actually decent, mid-level programs (these days). We doing home and homes with them?
