26 recruits, 12 guys left within a year- basically a 54% retention after one year. Of the 14 guys who stayed, 6 were ultimately full time starters who stuck around.

This class has always stuck out to me as haunting IU football. We had 2 QBs leave (Valahogeorge and Gregory). 4 linebackers either leave (Weeks, Tracz and Marvis) or not pan out at all (Price), and 6 OL (Moses, Roland, Jadron, Love, Edmundson and Baldwin) who either left early or never played. Between 2 position groups (LB and OL), 10 recruits never panned out. That is brutal.

26 Recruits, 2 starters and a bunch of rotation guys.

Dinardo's classes were a disaster in terms of depth/building the program. Of his 3 classes of 62 players, 30 left early. The 2004 Class was giant miss in terms of program building, with every linebacker and OL recruit either leaving or simply not being able to crack the 2 deep. That's 10 guys at critical spots. Overall, the Dinardo classes, while producing some starters, produced zero depth or rotation guys.

Heoppner's first class didn't recruit a single OL, which compounded issues going into the Lynch era. Hoeppener's second class had much better retention-losing only early, with another not being able to qualify, and two who were injured.

Moving on to the Bill Lynch era, the retention rate dropped significantly, losing almost 40% on average each class.

Wilson's classes stabilized retention, but more importantly, produced starters and rotation guys.

I have said this before, but when you really dig down deep, the recruiting woes for Indiana have been compounded year after year-so much so that I still think the Dinardo classes impact us today on some level. In other words, Hep was recruiting to fill in the gaps from the Dinardo era, which ultimately meant that Lynch did the same, and so forth. I believe the JUCO misses on the Wilson side from the 2012 class have been covered up for the most part, but I would have rather seen us limit the JUCOs to 3 and go after high school guys.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting to take a look at this and kind of lay it all out.
