I have no quibble with 8th. That's where we belong.
Beat Michigan soundly, we might just bump up a notch or two.
Beat Michigan and OSU, we'll be in the top four.
I can’t blame voters for being a tad gun shy to put IU in the top 5.

The last time this happened Hoosier Nation was all indignant about being “disrespected” with only getting the Outback Bowl against a low ranked team, and Ole Miss embarrassed us.

That was only 4 years ago.

We were 12th and it was the screw job rule change that sent OSU to the B1G title game that got us upset. By rule you had to play 6 games to qualify.

When Penix was out? You demoralize a team when you cheat them out of a spot they earned by the rules that were set forth.

We needed help too that we didn’t get. Had UNC not won the ACC title, the Orange Bowl was interested in an IND/ND NY6 game. But UNC winning the ACC made us the odd team out.

I worry about looking forward to OSU and mis step at UMich. Coaches will try hard to keep players focused.
IF we hold serve at home against UMich, that bye week should help heal some dings and extra film study on OSU.
IU hasn’t overlooked a single opponent so far this season. Michigan is a name brand program and the defending national champion. I would think IU would want to send a message to the rest of the country by whooping their ass.

I’m worried about the bye week. The last time we had an extra week to prepare we couldn’t even score 60 points against Nebraska.
Not sure the bball team scored 60 last year against Nebraska.

Edit - I just checked. They managed to put up 66, losing 93-66 to end that awful season.

Indiana went from Week 6 1994 to Week 11 2019 without being ranked. Since then the Hoosiers have been ranked in 18 different polls and at least once in 4 separate seasons (yes I'm counting the Preseason Poll in 2021 lol). IU has only been ranked 73 times in program history, meaning almost a quarter of that has been since 2019.

That is interesting. Of course they used to only rank the top 20, but still….

Here is one thing that will help Us at least with respect to some of the teams around or below US. The SEC is about to become a hot mess. LSU and Alabama have 2 losses each and play each other Saturday. No team with 3 losses will be in the Playoff. Ole Miss has 2 losses, another loss and They are gone. The SEC may end up with Texas and Georgia in their Championship Game, and the only two teams from their Conference to get in. The Big 12 appears to be cannibalizing it's teams and may end up with only their Champion in the Playoff. Same thing in the ACC. Beyond Miami, there may not be another team from their Conference getting to the Playoff.
So, if We take care of business all the way through, no problem. If We would lose to Ohio State in a close game it shouldn't hurt Us to lose to a team ranked ahead of Us, because there won't be a bunch of one loss teams hanging around Us in the standings looking for a way in.

I believe the SEC will get at least 4 teams in the playoffs/

The problem is that I doubt the rest of the country gets a message if IU thumps Michigan because EVERYBODY has been destroying Michigan this year
