Here’s a thought. Why is USAID, hell the entire Federal government, in the business of buying condoms at all?

That’s the crux. People think he’s going to start awarding himself massive government contracts. I’m sure he might get some contracts, but he deserves them, his companies are the best at what they do.
If Musk is really going to self-serve it will be from a regulatory scaleback. And it will be hard to splice which regulations really did need to be pared, and which he is doing out of self-interest.

There is no one making 50k at Musk’s companies. Maybe janitorial, even then I doubt it.
That assumes they are being brought in to replace a like for like employee. Which, while there are some sob stories I’m sure are true, isn’t usually the case.
The posts on here related to this topic seem to be sob stories. How do you know this is the case? Shrinking the tax base of any single job by 50% doesn’t sound like a winning formula...I think MAGA would agree with me.
How do you defend allowing corporations hiring foreign workers for half the cost? I think Disney was the example used here. They apologized for having their American workers train their Indian replacements. Do you have a different set of numbers to use?
H1B’s may be paid less on average, although the 50% figure is straight from your rectum.
Sponsoring and H1B is extremely costly, that is accounted for in the hires wages. Once more, the company has to make a long term commitment to the employee.
The idea of readily available domestic replacements is a fallacy. No company goes through the H1B process for convenience and cost cutting.

Um, the H1B publicized/ mandated wage is much less than hiring an American, right? Then their is an auto 7.5% deduction that the employer doesn't have to pay for SS. I just listened to a podcast, like 2 hours ago, H1B hires are 30%-40% less than hiring an American, when all taxes, burdens, benefits, regulations and burdens are calculated in.

I welcome cutting waste. I don't think that the verifiably GOOD things they do ought to be halted by a total shutdown, though. They distribute antimalarial and HIV meds in dirt poor areas. They buy mosquito nets for beds / cots in poor villages. They have nearly eradicated the parasitic disease called river blindness. They provide aid to battered women in areas where battering women is sadly accepted practice. Yes, they provide contraception to desperately poor people who want it. And 100 other GOOD things.
