Oh, those poor, mistreated Asians!

I think that non-Asian Americans are in greater danger from Asians than the other way around, or have you forgotten about this mass murder in Wisconsin? https://www.twincities.com/2014/11/...-hunters-slain-in-woods-of-western-wisconsin/ Or have you forgotten about that mass murder at Virginia Tech? And there are a bunch of other incidents of Asian mass killers in the US, but I don't remember the details.

And, by the way, "Asian" is not a race; Many different races are considered to be "Asian", and they don't all like each other.

Rutgers vs IU: RU 14 IU 2 (7 inn). IU's season comes to an end...

You know IU is running out of arms since they are running RHP John-Biagio Modugno out there to start the game, and he has really been struggling. He has an ERA of 10.53 in 33.1 IP with a WHIP of 2.19 and a big OBA of .362.
LHP Bryan Fitzpatrick is on the mound for Rutgers with an ERA of 4.74 in 19 IP and a WHIP of 1.32 with an OBA of ,239. This is his first start since March after suffering an injury.

I don't know what Jessee's injury problem is and he was replaced late by Murrison in the Terps game and Murrison is in the starting lineup against Rutgers. If my memory is correct, Jessee hurt his hand in an at-bat in the Terps game so that is probably it.

Maryland vs IU: IU 6 MD 4 (11 inn). IU knocks out the top seed to extend the season..

RHP Jack Perkins is on the mound for IU after throwing 28 pitches against the Terps on Thursday night and he has an ERA of 5.19 in 78.1 IP with a WHIP of 1.50 and an OBA of .236.
RHP Nick Dean, the Terps Sunday pitcher during the regular season is on the mound for the Terps with an ERA of 4.54 in 71.1 IP with a WHIP of 1.36 and an OBA of .258.

During the regular season, Perkins often struggled in the first inning or two before settling down, but I don't think he can afford to do that against the most formidable lineup in the the B1G this season, so we will see. I thought they might start the game out with Braydon Tucker with Perkins maybe being used in relief again at some point, but obviously that wasn't the plan. Whalen is back in the lineup after taking a pitch to the head last night.

Man. I didn’t realize how much Oladipo has been impacted…

Until watching this latest series. His explosiveness is gone, which has destroyed his offensive game. Don’t watch much NBA, but I hope he is able to get much closer to 100% than he is now.

He struggled to get off the ground with enough strength to dunk on a fast break through very little contact. Good to see him back, but he has a long way to go.

Hey goat

Glad to see you have found a public service to volunteer for. This wouldn’t be court-ordered community service, would it?

Texas has, by far, the most gun deaths.

The top states by gun death rates are:

Mississippi -- 28.6.
Louisiana -- 26.3.
Wyoming -- 25.9.

Mike Woodson note from Hubers - scheduling

Mike Woodson said he has begun discussions... $$$
...quick search on the net
... with John Calipari on renewing the Indiana - Kentucky rivalry
geesh

Mike Woodson wants IU-Kentucky series back: 'However we’ve got to get it done, I’ll take it.'

Matthew Glenesk
Indianapolis Star
Mike Woodson promised to beef up IU basketball's nonconference schedule. And he followed through, with games against Kansas and Arizona on the horizon.

But the opponent most IU fans want to see on the schedule is Kentucky.

At Wednesday night's annual trip to Huber Farms, Woodson said he's spoken to Kentucky coach John Calipari about renewing the rivalry.
“I’m gonna stay on his heels about trying to get the Kentucky-Indiana series back on the table. Over the years that was a helluva game. It might not be Bloomington-Lexington. However we’ve got to get it done, I’ll take it.”

The Hoosiers and Wildcats played each other in the 2012 and 2016 NCAA tournaments, but haven't had a regular-season meeting scheduled since 2011. Calipari has long been adamant the series be played at neutral venues and not on-campus home-and-homes.

Kentucky hasn't visited Assembly Hall since Christian Watford's iconic buzzer-beater vs. the Wildcats.

50 solutions proposed on Fox in a 24 hr period...

So it's hard to navigate all of the multiple pages in other threads, so I thought I'd give people a centralized thread to choose your favorite Fox proposal(s) and highlight why you think it would work to solve this uniquely American problem of gun violence in public places. So here is a suggested ground rule- you have to explain how the issue discussed is uniquely an American problem (for example eliminating video games) and consequently why that isn't an issue anywhere else in the world?

Not quite as catchy as Paul's classic "50 ways to leave your lover", but it seems to represent the best and brightest on Fox giving their valued input. Kind of amazing how in every single one of the "solutions" there isn't a single mention of the actual weapons involved. And as far as I can tell none of them seem to explain how other countries manage to avoid the same level of violence without having to resort to one of these proposed "solutions". So depending on which one (or more) of these solutions strike your fancy, that might end up being a follow up folks want clarification on...

I'll give you an example of what I mean. A few folks took issue with my mentioning that a central point of entry would be a fire hazard. That seems to be a popular choice and is somewhere on this list. So my first follow up point would be that the Topps store in Buffalo basically had a single point of entry, and the first person the gunman encountered was the armed security guard who was unable to prevent him from walking in and murdering people shopping for groceries...I think there was an armed security guard killed initially or very early on at that C&W bar in CA a few years back as well. But that might be faulty memory on my part...

And a further point for consideration, for someone inclined to choose locked doors. Does turning schools into armed fortresses actually solve the inherent problem?

Let's say the next deranged mass killer wants to kill a bunch of school kids, and his optimum choice is to sneak in an unguarded door. But somehow he knows that there is no way in but the front door, and it's guarded so he has to alter his plan. He's intent on killing kids, so he decides that a "lesser" option is to find a spot outside the building where he can wait until school lets out and masses of kids and even parents are making their way to school busses or cars. So kids and parents are happily leaving school at the end of the day, totally unaware that a killer is lurking outside the moment they step out from the "safety" of their fortified school building...

Does that strike you as unlikely? If so, take a look at the evolution of mass killings in this country over the past 50 or so years. Do you really think "locked doors" are the panacea to ending this plague? Do you really think that the people who plan these events for whatever twisted reasons they might have, aren't going to be able to adapt once they've secured their weapon of choice? The Ramos kid worked a job he hated at Wendys until he was able to save up $4000 to make his dream come true. In reality, had he encountered a locked door that day it might have just postponed the inevitable, aside from the fact that he decided to practice on Granny first...

Anyway here's the supercut of the choices proposed and who proposed them. The second link shows them all compiled on the screen simultaneously, in case the video moves too fast to choose...

Coach Allen can prove a lot this year

Thinking out loud: CTA is facing a year that matters. I know they all matter but we underachieved so badly last year and it was a surprise to many including me. If we can win 6 and go bowling Tom will be applauded and last year looks like an anomaly. If however, we look outclassed for a second straight year, it'll be hard to keep people on the CTA band wagon. Thoughts? Thx in advance. Go Hoosiers!

Team chemistry

If I interpreted TJD correctly, and maybe I did not, he said the starters would play the bench and that developed chemistry.
Did he mean that you could literally substitute 5 guys for 5 guys?
Interesting way to do it. 5 fresh guys come in. But usually individuals have different stamina levels. One guy may need a rest before a different guy.
Interesting to see what combos do play at the same time.

Friday Funnies

A guy is late for an important meeting.

But he can't find a place to park. In desperation, he begins to pray.

"Please Lord, if you help me find a parking stall right now, I promise to go to church every Sunday and never drink vodka again!"

A moment later, he sees a beautiful empty spot right next to the entrance.

"Never mind. Found one!"

and a chick....

Illinois vs IU: IU 8 Illini 1. IU stays alive with a complete game by Brehmer...

RHP Bradley Brehmer is on the mound for IU with an ERA of 5.89 in 65.2 IP and his WHIP is 1.54, with an OBA of .267.
RHP Riley Gowens is on the mound for Illinois with an ERA of 5.11 in 61.2 IP and his WHIP is 1.23 with an OBA of .216.

IU faced the Illini starter during the regular season and Gowens numbers that day were 4.0 IP, 6 hits and 7 runs all earned although he didn't get the loss in an 11-7 win by IU that day.

In the 1st, Brehmer walks the leadoff man after a 3-2 count. A ball hits off Brehmer and no one can get to it before the batter reached and we have runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Brehmer then gets a DP ball for two outs and with a runner reaching 3rd. A ground out ends the Illini's 1st.

In IU's 1st, Glasser leads off and pops out to the SS. Whalen Ks looking for the 2nd out. A ground out ends the inning.

OT: best Pacers picks at #6, #31, and #58?

For #6, for sure the three bigs Jabari Smith, Chet, and Banchero are gone. Who slides? Ivey might be a good pick. Lots of mocks are saying Shadon Sharpe, and Keegan Murray comes up often too.

There is some decent depth in this draft and #31 might be an eventual rotation player. Too high for TJD, but 3-and-D wing, maybe?

#58 could be a nice spot for TJD, Cockburn, Harper, or some other development prospect with holes in their game to work on.
