Donald Duck Dunn Tribute

10 years ago today Duck Dunn passed away. One of the all-time great bass players - member of Booker T and the MG's and contributor to songs by artists as diverse as Albert King, Bob Dylan, Sam and Dave, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Wilson Pickett, Neal Young, and more musicians than can be named.

This clip is one of my all time favorite videos of a live performance

It would be smaller than most existing reactors, but Purdue and Duke Energy are considering building a nuclear reactor to power Purdue.

Friday Recruiting Notebook - May 13

Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was officially invited to the 2022 NBA Draft Combine earlier this week.

The combine takes place May 16 - 22.

Jackson- Davis will also work out for a few NBA teams with the full intention of taking until the designated date of June 1 to announce whether he will return or not.

Wichita State transfer wing Dexter Dennis is announcing his college choice this afternoon.

He visited Indiana in April and all signs pointed to an Indiana commitment. At this time, however, multiple sources say he is not going to Indiana.

Texas A&M is a strong contender.

—-

As for news this week that 2023 forward Coen Carr is looking to take another visit to Indiana, that May very well happen but Indiana is not prioritizing him at the moment as someone in the top few of the class.

He hasn’t played all spring due to a finger injury and I believe that has hurt him in terms of where he stands with the IU staff.

Two guys IU is pushing for are 2023 forward Arrinten Page and 2023 forward TJ Power.

Page has had a phenomenal spring and Indiana is making it evident it wants him.

Power is a newer offer and he told TheHoosier.com he is looking to visit Indiana, Notre Dame and Virginia this summer.

Page is more of your athletic big man while Power is beginning to play more on the wing.

Indiana is very much pushing for visits from both and don’t be surprised at all if Indiana gets both on campus this summer.

As for 2023 five-star KJ Evans, things are split on whether or not Indiana is truly a contender.

Sources told me earlier this week that Evans wasn’t ‘too serious’ about Indiana and it seems that a visit is iffy. Things seem to be more along the lines of a visit to make people happy due to his ties to IU with Montverde teammates Malik Reneau and Jalen Hood-Schifino.

Oregon, Kentucky and Arizona are strongest here.

Other players who you can continue to monitor are 2023 wing Brady Dunlap, 2023 wing Asa Thomas, 2023 guard Freddie Dilione, 2024 guard Jonathan Powell, 2024 guard Travis Perry.

I would not be surprised if Dunlap becomes more of a priority towards the fall.

Today’s newsstand piece re Simmons …

Also contained other insights into Coach Bell, quoting CTA as saying "He is super involved on inside run… “. Looks like we’re still determined to run it up the gut & play behind the chains 😄

Half-kidding. Good article. One could say they saw subtle jabs at prior staff’s dysfunction, if one were so inclined to such theories.

Happy Friday the 13th, yahoos!

RIP, Randy Weaver

The man who kicked off the modern era of anti-government hatred has passed away.

Rudy Ridge was a watershed moment in American history. The previous bout of anti-government agitation, during the 60s and 70s, was largely driven by the left, the young, peaceniks, minorities, etc. Then, we got sick of that, and moved into the materialistic 80s. But in 1992, anti-government sentiment flared again, and this movement was quite different from the counterculture of earlier decades. This time, the hatred was coming from disaffected whites and conservatives. Not people who felt the nation was never for them, but rather people who felt the nation has been taken from them. A line runs from Ruby Ridge through Waco and Oklahoma City, up to the Bundy standoffs and Charlottesville and other recent events.

And yet, that's not to dismiss Weaver as some radical zealot undeserving of sympathy. The feds killed his wife and son. Leadership at the FBI at the time the siege was happening was wary about their own legal footing. After he and his friend were acquitted of almost everything, and he settled a wrongful death suit against the government, an anonymous FBI informant told WaPo that the government's case was so bad, Weaver probably would have won his case if it had gone to trial.

Those worried about current divisions in America becoming inflamed would do well to look at the 90s again. It all started with Ruby Ridge, and it quickly built to a catastrophic climax in Oklahoma City. Like an earthquake relieving some tension in the fault, the bombing may have cooled things for a while, but it didn't end the conflict.

Friday Funnies

The world's leading expert on European wasps walks into a record shop.

He asks the assistant “Do you have ‘European Vespidae Acoustics Volume 2? I believe it was released this week.”

“Certainly,” replies the assistant. “Would you like to listen before you buy it?”

"That would be wonderful," says the expert, and puts on a pair of headphones.

He listens for a few moments and says to the assistant, “I'm terribly sorry, but I am the world's leading expert on European wasps and this is not accurate at all. I don't recognize any of those sounds. Are you sure this is the correct recording?”

The assistant checks the turntable, and replies that it is indeed European Vespidae Acoustics Volume 2. The assistant apologizes and lifts the needle onto the next track.

Again the expert listens for a few moments and then says to the assistant, "No, this just can't be right! I've been an expert in this field for 43 years and I still don't recognize any of these sounds."

The assistant apologizes again and lifts the needle to the next track.

The expert throws off the headphones as soon as it starts playing and is fuming with rage.
"This is outrageous false advertising! I am the world's leading expert on European wasps and no European wasp has ever made a sound like the ones on this record!"

The manager of the shop overhears the commotion and walks over. "What seems to be the problem, sir?"

"This is an outrage! I am the world's leading expert on European wasps. Nobody knows more about them than I do. There is no way in hell that the sounds on that record were made by European wasps!"

The manager glances down and notices the problem instantly.

"I'm terribly sorry, sir. It appears we've been playing you the bee side."

Scandal hits Nick Fuentes and his America First Incel cult...

A split has emerged. Nick and the rest of the Boys are upset and feel betrayed that one of their own has renounced his Incel lifestyle and (shudder) found himself a woman. As a result he moved out of Nick's basement and is now spilling what he knows about how Nick has been helping himself to the "non profit's" funds...

This is pretty hilarious. And just in case you were wondering what Michelle Malkin has been up to now that Candace Owens has stolen her outraged minority MAGA thunder, this story provides some insight. It appears she has become the Queen of the Incels, and actually has been serving on the BOD of Nick's little group.

Remember MTG and Gosar were among the attendees at Fuentes' America First PAC meeting back in Orlando, although MTG claimed she had no idea who Fuentes was. IIRC, he actually dropped an anti semitic slur or two while she was awaiting her turn on stage, but she claimed she wasn't aware. Maybe she's deaf?

Preview of the Minnesota series...

I don't think Coach Mercer and the team need us to tell them how important this series is and there's a good chance this series will be the difference in making the B1G tournament or not. Get into the tournament and anything can happen. The Gophers are coming off taking two of three last weekend against Nebraska, but had just two B1G wins before that. The Huskers are having a hugely disappointing season after being tabbed the preseason favorite in the conference, and their problem has been the opposite of IU's in that they struggle to score runs. Given the season the Gophers have had, it's no surprise they are well down in the rankings in the three major categories of batting, pitching, and fielding in the B1G. Here are their rankings compared to IU:

Team batting:
IU - 6th with an avg. of .280 Minn - 12th with an avg. of .248

Team pitching:
IU -13th (last) with an ERA of 7.02 Minn - 9th with an ERA of 6.15

Team fielding:
IU - tied for 5th with a fielding pct of 0.974 with 43 errors (48 games) Minn - 10th with a fielding pct of 0.964 with 59 errors (45 games)

Saturday's game has been shifted to a 4 p.m. start time and WILL be on BTN. It is also Senior Day and Bark in the Park day.

Weather foreceast:
Fri - High of 87 and mostly sunny with no precip and winds 7 mph with gusts to 13.
Sat - High of 80 and partly sunny with possible afternoon TSs and winds 6 mph with gusts to 9.
Sun - High of 82 with a mix of clouds and sun with a stray TS possible and winds 6 mph with gusts to 12.

The great MAGA king

This seems to be the PR line of the week from the Biden admin. A MAGA over here a MAGA over there, MAGA everywhere. All the R’s in congress are MAGA’s. MAGA people are dangerous. Even Psaki is getting in on some MAGA with a grin.

What do the Coolerites think about this tact? Is the belief that the only person more unpopular than Biden is Trump? Scare those suburban moms away from the midterms if you say MAGA enough times?

It strikes me as exceedingly dumb and transparent. Whoever is doing this Admins PR needs to be shit canned.
