After our 1-2 start to the season, and against less than awesome opponents, many of us were concerned we might be blown out by visiting Stanford. The first part of the first quarter did not go well but then we came on.
We matched, perhaps beat, their physicality. Our shooting was better. Lilly got into foul trouble and Moren kept her in longer then many of us might have. I’m not sure if that was because she had faith in her to avoid fouls 4 and 5 (she did not) or lack of confidence in our replacement bigs. Striplin took some of the Lilly minutes, Jules took some minutes (and continues to draw charges). No minutes from Currie Jelkes or Faith. The later may be from Moren’s tendency to not play freshmen. Not sure about Currie Jelkes, makes you wonder if she will contribute eventually or not at all. Sydney Fenn has already been announced as a red shirt year.
Shay showed her speed and shots other than from long distance. Chloe set the stage early with points to give us an early lead. Yardon hit big threes.
Valentyne kadlecova did not play, but again as a frosh that is not to surprising.
Lex and Beau have yet to shake their injuries enough to play, I have not heard what the injuries are nor when they are expected back.
I had predicted in other threads that my guess for a breakout player/big improvement was Beau. Hope she is back soon.
