Former Indiana All-Star and two-time state champion from Carmel High School Zach McRoberts has joined Indiana as a walk-on.

McRoberts is a 6-foot-6 forward who is immediately eligible.

McRoberts played the 2014-15 season at Vermont, averaging 4.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 20.0 minutes per game.

McRoberts transferred to Indiana in the fall of 2015 but announced at that time that he was done playing basketball.

He changed his mind and has joined IU as a walk-on.

McRoberts was a part of Carmel's 2013 and 2014 Class 4A state title teams.

He is the younger brother of former Duke player and current Miami Heat forward Josh McRoberts.

UPDATE:

Some info and notes on McRoberts as a player at Carmel:

Have to see what his game looks like after a year off.

Being 6-foot-6 and primarily a slender interior player coming out of high school was a big factor in his being a mid-major recruit to Vermont, which was starting a big push in the state of Indiana at the time.

He was a 6-foot-6 four-man at Vermont, which is similar to what he played at Carmel.

In 2011-12 as a sophomore at Carmel, he was the leading rebounder (5.1) on a Class 4A state title team. He also averaged 4.8 points and shot 50 percent (46-for-92) from the floor.

In an 80-67 state title win over Pike in 2012, McRoberts had eight rebounds, tying for Carmel team high, scored six points and had a game-high four blocked shots before fouling out. He played 22 minutes.

In 2012-13 as a junior, McRoberts again was the leading rebounder on a Class 4A state title team, averaging 6.3 per game. He was Carmel's third-leading rebounder at 10.2 per game and shot 59 percent (98-for-165) from the floor.

In a 57-53 state title win over Collin Hartman, Jalen Coleman (Illinois) and Cathedral in 2013, McRoberts had a team-high eight rebounds and six points and played all 32 minutes as Carmel used just six players in the game.

He was very fundamentally sound and bought into coach Scott Heady's team-oriented concepts.
