Other scores from around the B1G.

Michigan 8 Purdue 6 - Michigan moved into a tie for 3rd with IU and Purdue by winning the home series, 2-1. For seeding purposes, IU right now has the tie breaker over Purdue with the series with Michigan and IU breaking the tie between them with their series coming up.

PSU 11 Rutgers 10 - PSU is fighting for a spot in the B1G tournament and they are tied with Minnesota for 10th place right now after taking the home series 2-1.

NW 3 OSU 1 - OSU missed out on a chance for a sweep of the worst team in the B1G, but winning the home series, 2-1, put them in a three-way tie with Maryland and MSU for 7th place.

Minn 15 MSU 12 - The Gophers won the home series 2-1 and by doing so, they stayed in the picture for getting one of the bottom seeds in the tournament and are tied for 10th with PSU. By losing the series, MSU was in a tie for 7th with Maryland and OSU.

Illinois 6 Iowa 3 - Illinois won the home series 2-1 and stayed a game ahead of Nebraska for 1st place. Iowa is in 6th place and their B1G schedule is finished and they locked into at least the 6th seed depending on what happens this coming weekend, while they play out of conference.

Boston College 2 Maryland 1 - Maryland won the road series 2-1 and they are in a battle for one of the lower seeds and are tied for 7th with OSU and MSU. Maryland has a really good RPI of 35, but their conference record doesn't do them any good right now.

B1G Tourney: There are so many scenarios involved at the top of the standings as well as at the lower standings as far as seedings and who is going to be left out, it's useless to try and guess how things will stack up after the last day of the regular season on Saturday. The season ending series will start on Thursday since the B1G tournament begins on Tues., May 21. The only thing that is certain is that Iowa at the very least is locked into 6th seed and could move up depending on what the teams do above them. All Iowa can do is watch what happens in the other series. Northwestern and Rutgers are the only teams eliminated from the tournament. Here are the season ending series coming up.

Minnesota @ NW

Michigan @ IU

Illinois @ Purdue

OSU @ Rutgers

PSU @ Maryland

Nebraska @ MSU

FIU @ Iowa

I am not 100% sure about all of the tiebreaker rules but even if the Hoosiers and Boilers lose out and MSU, OSU and Maryland win out and they all end up in a tie for 5th place, the Hoosiers would have the tiebreaker over Purdue and Maryland. The way I see it the Hoosiers should be no worse than an 8th seed in the B1G tournament and give themselves a chance for Post Season although it would be a mighty slim one.
Poor defense, fundamentals and lack of decent Pitching in the middle of the Season have pretty much done this team in, unfortunately. I am hoping that the Hoosiers finish strong and squeeze into a Post Season berth but things have to really break the right way.
Go Hoosiers!

IU's pitching of late has not been bad and IU could have won all three games in Lincoln if it wasn't for the hitting which couldn't get anything going like they did in the late stage of the first game. For some reason, IU can't seem to put any runs across in the first five innings of games except for six total runs over that period in the previous six games, and needless to say the errors today were killers. Nebraska is No. 1 in pitching in the B1G, but we have lately let pitchers with elevated numbers shut us down and it's really puzzling.

I think we need to win our last 4 to have a shot at an at-large. And I think a Big Ten championship is a pipe dream at this point. But can still get a nice 2-3-4 seed.

If anyone would have told me before the season that we’d struggle to score like we have with our returning lineup intact, I’d have thought they were crazy. There are clear and obvious ways to jump start an offense, but I’m not certain our staff is aware of that.
