@Rutgers- BTT Championship Noon BTN

Rutgers the much better team today.

NCAA pairings come out tomorrow afternoon. Hoosiers in, but let’s see if they can get a top 16 seed and first round bye.

You like to beat up on Todd quite a bit because he isn't as good as his father. Would you suggest firing him and rehiring 82 year old Jerry? Seems that's the only thing that would make you happy about IU soccer.
I liked soccer when it was a club sport and IU dominated the college landscape. As soon as it got pulled in as a college-sanctioned program, you knew other programs would pass IU because of its own ineptitude in managing any organized sport.
IU is maybe the 3rd or 4th best run soccer program in the conference.

But, it doesn’t get too much worry because nobody attends soccer games for college. Hell, even college hockey can fill the Big House for a game. Can you imagine the revenue if IU soccer was played at Memorial Stadium and there was enough interest to fill it?
IU soccer is just more fallout from an athletic department that consists entirely of IU people who know nothing but IU and have spent there entire career there.
In other words: they don’t know how to run big time athletics. Soccer was once elite. Now it’s just another program under the watch of people who don’t know what they are doing.

IU Soccer is not just another program. They are not as dominant now as they used to be because NO ONE is. That is true of every sport that once dominated at the level IU did. Maryland women's basketball, PSU volleyball, and Iowa Wrestling are examples of sports that were as dominant as IU soccer once was.

They are all still really good but can't roll out of bed and run over the league now because everyone else has gotten much better. IU soccer is in the same boat. They are still a national contender every year. Also, the athletic department has NOT ignored soccer. They just did a major upgrade to Armstrong Stadium last year and replaced the field itself this year. It is far and away the nicest facility in the Big Ten (and I have been to all of them). Many other Big Ten stadiums don’t even have locker rooms or regular restrooms on site (porta potties). IU has all of that and they are now brand new after renovation.

The Hoosiers will never again dominate like Jerry Yeagley did again (and that is true ever if Yeagley Sr. was still coach) because that is not possible anymore given how good the competition is and every top sport art every school has proven that. Just ask Tennessee women’s basketball who IU plays tonight. Again, still really good but don’t win a title or go to Final Four every year.

IU soccer will be in contention every year, and this is their version of a ‘down’ year which most programs would kill for. IU and Maryland are the only Big Ten teams who are in contention year in and year out while everyone else has been very up and down. I'll take three College Cups in four years from 2018-2021 and six straight Big Ten Titles (three regular season, three conference tournament) during that time followed by this version of a down year (taking Big Ten regular season and conference tourney to final day last two seasons).

The worst thing said though is that IU fell off when turning from club to varsity. IU was that dominant as a varsity sport from 1973-2004 and really good from 2010 until now. Only 2005-2010 under Freitag was a problem and IU quickly corrected that and are now as good as can be reasonably expected given the resources put in by every program now. Oh and attendance is among the best in the country.

Since '73, when IU Soccer became a varsity sport, we've been the most successful program in all of college soccer. Most championships, most college cup appearances and the highest winning % in both the regular & post season of any team in D1.

Todd has been head coach 13 years at IU. He's won the 8th star, lost twice in the title game (both double OT golden goals), and lost once in the semis. That's not bad. He has a team this year that lost 2 All-Americans from last year's squad and is doing their best with the talent they have. The program is on solid ground.

Great post Dude! I would point out Michigan State to further illustrate your point. Remember that classic elite game in the 2017 round of 8? The PK shoot-out where Muse was dominant and the fans stormed the field? MSU was incredible that year with their own stud keeper, but where are they now? A lower half BIG Ten team. They had their 1 or 2 good years and are now nothing special. I'll take IUs 37 straight NCAA appearances over that any day-even if it mean having a"bad year" like this one on occasion.

Great response, Dude. This guy bitches about everything IU. I'm sure your factual presentation will keep him quiet until another IU team loses a game/match. The ladies BB team manhandled TN last night. An opportunity for Big Red to bash Moren and the administration was foiled.
