1st Inning:

T1st:

Glasser singled to leadoff and Whalen K'd for one out. Jessee K'd for the 2nd out with Glasser still at 1st, and Pyne flied out to retire the side.

B1st:

Seiler gets off to a bad start by walking the leadoff hitter on four pitches. Whalen made a good catch racing in on a ball to left CF for the 1st out. A bad luck hit that wasn't hit all that hard, barely stayed fair and then hopped over the 1B bag then made it to the wall for a double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. A SF scored the runner from 3rd to make it 1-0 with the runner on 2nd advancing to 3rd. A GO ended the inning.

2nd Inning:

T2nd:

IU goes down in order.

B2nd:

Another bad luck hit that was off Seiler, puts the leadoff man on. A single puts runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs.

A WP scored another run with the runner on 1st taking 2nd with one out. Seiler gets a GO for the 2nd out with the runner on 2nd taking 3rd.

An infield hit scores the runner from 3rd to make it 3-0 with a runner on 1st with two outs. Seiler then walked a man on a full count to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. A flyout ended the inning and ECU has benefitted from some well place hits, while Seiler hasn't helped his cause any with two walks and a WP so far.

3rd Inning:

T3rd:

ECU's starting pitcher Yesavage is ranked the No. 36 overall prospect in the country by D1Baseball in the next MLB draft.

After getting the No. 8 and 9 hitters on K's, Glasser hit a two-out solo homer to make it 3-1 and Glasser has both of IU's hits so far. Whalen K'd to end their side of the inning. Yesavage had 6 K's thru 3 IP.

B3rd:

Seiler gets the first two batters on GOs but then walked the next batter on four pitches with two outs. A flyout ended the inning.

4th Inning:

T4th:

Jessee K'd to leadoff, Yesavage's 7th K of the game. Pyne reached on a throwing error by 3B and advanced to 2nd on the error. Mathison then walked on four pitches.

Tibbitts reached on a fielder's choice with Mathison out at 2nd and Pyne taking 3rd to put runners on the corners with two outs. Ellis grounds out to retire the side.

B4th:

Ey replaced Seiler who had a so-so outing and also had some bad luck with well-placed hits. Ey gets the leadoff man on a GO, with the next batter reaching on a bunt single with one out. The runner takes 2nd on a steal. Ey then walked a man to put two on and gave up a three-run homer to ECU's top hitter who is hitting at a .407 clip.

Ey then gave up a double and hit a batter to put two on and one out. a pop up and a fielder's choice ended the inning.

5th Inning:

T5th:

The first two batters flied out and then Glasser doubled and Whalen walked to put two on with two outs. Jessee K'd to retire the side. It seems that Glasser is the only Hoosier that can hit Yesavage.

B5th:

Why Mercer stayed with Ey is beyond me since he struggled in the 4th, but he was out on the mound again. Maybe, Mercer had already given up on the game being down 6-1 and a dominate pitcher on the mound. Here is Ey's 5th:

He hit the leadoff batter.

He gave up a single.

He got a flyout for one out.

He gave up a single.

He then gave up a double that scored three more runs putting IU down 9-1.

Mercer goes to the bullpen and brings in Vega and he gets the first man he pitched to on a lineout.

Vega gives up a two-run homer to make it 11-1, and then gives up a double, before ending the inning on a GO. In 1.1 IP, Ey gave up 7 earned runs and he has not looked good in previous appearances if my memory is correct.

6th Inning:

T6th:

Despite leading 11-1 and Yesavage pitching long enough to get the win, he returned to the mound again. Pyne fouled out for the first out.

Mathison reached on an infield hit and he is the first Hoosier to get a hit that is not named Glasser. Tibbitts walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Ellis K'd and Cerny K'd on a WP and reached 1st to load the bases with two outs, but Serruto K'd to retire the side.

B6th:

Vega got the leadoff hitter on a GO, but then gave up a triple to the next hitter with one out. A SF scored the runner from 3rd to make it 12-1 with two outs. An infield hit put a runner on with two outs. Every batter in the lineup has a least one hit for ECU. A K ends the inning.

7th Inning:

T7th:

New pitcher on the mound for ECU and he greeted Glasser by hitting him with a pitch as IU had their leadoff man aboard. Whalen grounded out with Jessee walking to put runners on 1st and 2nd. I guess the ECU coach was worried about his 12-1 lead so he goes to the bullpen again with two on and one out.

Pyne reached on a FC with Jessee out at 2nd, and Mathison K'd to retire the side.

B7th:

Hellman comes in for Vega and puts them down in order.

8th Inning:

T8th:

IU struck for two runs in this inning.

Tibbitts grounded out and Ellis singled with Murrison pinch running for Ellis.

Cerny singled and advanced to 2nd on a WP with Murrison taking 3rd.

Langerman who replaced Serruto behind the plate, scored Murrison on a SF.

Glasser continued his outstanding game by doubling which scored Cerny.

Whalen K'd to retire the side of the inning.

B8th:

Bothwell came in for Hellman and he really struggled in this inning and here is how things went for him.

He hit the leadoff man and then walked the next man to put the first two batters on.

He gave up a single which scored a run.

He walked another hitter to load the bases with no outs, and Mercer goes to the bullpen to bring in Levy.

Levy gets a K for the first out and then a FC scores another run with two outs.

Levy then gave up a 3-run homer as ECU continued to batter IU's bullpen today with IU down 17-3. A lineout ends the inning.

9th Inning:

T9th: Jessee singled to lead off. Pyne flied out.

Mathison singled and Tibbitts hit a double which scored Jessee. Vecrumba K'd as a pinch hitter. Cerny flied out to end a game in which IU pitching got battered for the first time this season.

Glasser was the lone bright spot when the game was competitive early on and he went 4 for 4 with two doubles and a HR for 2 RBIs. Mathison was the only other hitter with more than one hit and he was 2 for 4 with those hits coming after the game got out of hand.

Seiler took the loss and a couple of the early hits off Seiler that hurt IU were not hard hit and were balls that we just couldn't make a play on. As far as the bullpen goes, Ey is a candidate to get buried deep in the bullpen since he has not pitched well out of the gate when the season opened and he got battered big time today with 1.1 IP, 6 hits to include a HR and two doubles, 7 runs all earned, and he hit two batters. He walked just one batter, but that may be because the batters were either getting hits off him or were being hit by pitches. Bothwell couldn't even get an out, and he faced four batters giving up a hit, two BBs, and hit a batter and was charged with 4 earned runs.

Outside of Glasser's hitting, the other positive was fielding which was good with no errors charged.

I guess it still just counts for one loss, but damn that was ugly.

Feels like our fundamentals are lacking at the plate, in the field, and on the mound. All in all, I’m not very encouraged by what I’ve watched so far this season. Hopefully things will turn around. Baseball can be weird like that.
