Another schedule change as they are playing a DH today instead of the single game on Monday.

Purdue scored two unearned runs in the 1st aided by a throwing error by Pyne at 3rd, along with three singles by the Boilers. Former Hoosier Toetz, had one of the Boilers RBIs. IU struck for three runs in the 3rd, as a walk to Jessee and then a 2-run homer by Murrison tied the game at 2-2. IU then loaded the bases on two singles and a hit batter with no outs. Ellis hit into a DP which scored the runner at 3rd to make it 3-2, IU. Pyne struck out to end IU' half of the inning as IU missed on a big chance to grab a big lead there.

In the Boilers 3rd, Brehmer got the first two batters on a GO and a K, but then hit a batter to put a man on with two outs. What's an IU game without a hit batter by our pitcher. After the hit batter, Toetz got a single to put runners on the corners with two outs. Brehmer then got a K to end the inning with no damage done.

In the 4th, IU gets a leadoff walk from Tibbetts. After a flyout by Mathison, Jessee was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Tibbetts stole 3rd to put runners on the corners. Murrsion singled to LF to score a run to make it 4-2 with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. That chases the Purdue starter in Troy Wansing who came into the game with an ERA of just over 2.00. Purdue brings in one of their top relievers in Landon Weins who has an ERA of 2.25 in 28 IP. Doanes singles to bring in another run to make it 5-2, IU, and runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Weins then walked Whalen to load the bases with one out. Murrison scores on a SAC fly by Glasser to make it 6-2. Ellis walked to load the bases with two outs, but a line out ended IU's 4th.

In PU's 4th, a leadoff bloop single put a man on. A bunt single put men on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Brehmer then got a K for the 1st out. A fielder's choice at 2nd, put runners on the corners with two outs. A flyout ended the inning as Brehmer has pitched well today through 4 IP.

In IU's 5th, Weins walked the leadoff batter in Mathison. After a ground out, Jessee singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Sam Murrison then singled to LF to score Mathison and put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out and IU up 7-2. Murrison is 3-3 so far today with 4 RBIs. The Boilers go to the bullpen again bringing in RHP Nolan Daniel with an ERA of 9.31 in 9.2 IP. Doanes grounded out and Whalen struck out to end IU's half of the inning.

In PU's 5th, Brehmer walks the first two batters and these are his first BBs of the game on so maybe he's starting to run out of gas with his PC at 73. Toetz flies out for the 1st out with the runners staying at 1st and 2nd. Purdue's Albrecht, their top hitter at .411, singled to load the bases with one out, and Mercer goes to the bullpen to bring in Grant Holderfield. Brehmer gave IU a good outing, something they desperately needed after recent struggles by the pitching staff. Holderfield forced a pop up that was fielded by Doanes on a diving catch and Albrecht was caught off 1st for a DP to end the inning with no damage done.

In the 6th, Glasser got a leadoff single and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Ellis then walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs. A fielder's choice forces Ellis at 2nd with runners now on the corners with one out. Purdue goes to their bullpen again bringing in RHP Logan Danzeisen who has an ERA of 7.50 in 6 IP. Tibbetts hit a shallow flyout fielded by 2B with the runners holding on the corners. Pyne got caught off 1st for the 3rd out as IU missed out on a big chance to add to their lead.

A flyout started PU's 6th. A BB puts a runner on 1st with one out. Holderfield then got a K on a 3-2 count for the 2nd out. A bunt single put two men on. A single up the middle scored a two-out run to make it 7-3 as another walk crossed the plate, something IU pitching has done a lot of this season. Holderfield got a K to end the inning.

In the 7th, Mathison is hit by a pitch to leadoff. This is the 3rd HBP by Purdue today as they lead IU 3-1 in hit batters today so far. Jessee then singled through the infield to put runners on the corners with no outs. Jessee then stole 2nd. Murrison grounded out to 1B as a run scores for IU to make it 8-3 with one out and a man on 3rd. Doanes pops out for the 2nd out with a runner still on 3rd. Whalen is caught looking for the 3rd out as IU scores one but it could have been bigger.

In PU's 7th, Braydon Tucker replaces Holderfield. Tucker has been up and down coming out of the bullpen this season, and he has had appearances where he has pitched extremely well. Tucker's ERA is 5.11 in 24.2 IP. Toetz popped out for the 1st out. A K and another pop out ended the inning. Good inning for Tucker.

In the T8th, Glasser walked to leadoff. Ellis hits into a DP. A walk to Pyne and then a 2-out, 2-run homer by Tibbetts put IU up 10-3. Purdue goes to their bullpen again bringing in RHP Khal Stephen and Mathison strikes out to end IU's 8th.

In PU's 8th, the leadoff man got an infield hit. IU gets a somewhat rare DP on a good play by Doanes and then Tucker gets a K to end the inning.

In the 9th, Jessee walks to leadoff and it's the 6th inning today that IU has got the leadoff man on. For the 2nd straight inning, IU hits into a DP. Doanes grounds out to end IU's half of the inning, and IU is three outs away from getting a much needed win.

In PU's 9th, with Tucker still on the mound, the leadoff man flies out. A single put a man on, but another DP by IU ends the game.

IU got a solid pitching performance today that we had grown unaccustomed to this season as they gave up three runs with two of those being unearned in the 1st. Brehmer didn't get the win since he went 4.1 IP, but he looked good and gave up two runs, both unearned. Holderfield went 1.2 IP and gave up the lone earned run, but got the win. Tucker pitched an excellent 3 IP and got the save to end it. Sam Murrison had a great day at the plate to go 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs and a 2-run homer. Jessee and Doanes both had 2 hits, and Tibbetts hit a 2-run homer. IU hasn't turned very many DPs this season and ranks low in that category nationwide, but they turned two of them today. It would be a great turnaround to get the 2nd game of the DH and win the series after the game one debacle.

I thought I would add that we weren't the only team in the B1G to get embarrassed this weekend as Nebraska lost to Rutgers today, 19-1, and their bullpen gave up 16 runs over the last three innings of that game while the Huskers got just two hits. We should worry about our team, but at least we aren't alone, and Neb was the favorite to win the B1G this season, and they are 12-18 and 4-5 in the conference.
