1st Inning:

T1st: IU got off to a great start as they got a GS by Mathison to take a 4-0 lead. Here's how it happened:

Glasser GO for leadoff out.
Jessee walked.
Pyne singled.
Ellis was hit by a pitch.
Tibbetts fouled out for the 2nd out
Mathison clubs a GS for the 4-0 lead.
Whalen walks to put a runner on with two outs.
Goforth walks to put two runners on and Auburn immediately goes to the bullpen.
Serruto K'd to end IU's top of the inning.

B1st: Luke Sinnard, transfer from W. KY, gets the start for IU. Sinnard gets a K on a 1-2 count facing his first batter as a Hoosier. A lineout and a double by the freshman Irish, who has killed IU in this series, puts a man in scoring position with two outs. A flyout ends the inning with no damage done after the double.

2nd Inning:

T2nd: It's the top of the order up and Gasser is one IU hitter that has had good success at the plate going into today's game. Glasser gets a leadoff walk on a full count. Jessee doubled to left CF and runners are on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Glasser scored on a SF by Pyne with Jessee holding at 2nd and one out. Ellis flied out with Jessee holding at 2nd and two outs. Tibbetts K'd to end IU's half of the inning.

B2nd: Sinnard gives up another two-out double, but gets the last out with no further damage done.

3rd Inning:

T3rd: It's the 6 thru 8 hitters for IU. Mathison doubles and Whalen singles to put runners on the corners with no outs, and Auburn goes to their bullpen again to bring in their third pitcher of the game with Goforth up. Goforth K'd on a 1-2 count. Serruto reached on a fielder's choice and Mathison was thrown out at the plate for the 2nd out and runners on 1st and 2nd. The top of the order is up and Glasser singles to drive in another run with runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. The bottom of the order failed to come through for us, but fortunately, Glasser with his hot bat this weekend came through for the RBI. Jessee singled to score Serruto and IU has plated two runs after two outs with runners on the corners and Pyne up. Pyne doubled to make it 8-0 with runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs, and IU chases Auburn's 3rd pitcher of the game as they keep looking for someone to hold down IU. Ellis strikes out to end IU's 3rd and we scored three runs after two outs with some clutch hitting by the top of the order.

B3rd: Sinnard put them down in order.

4th Inning:

T4th: IU goes down in order with Tibbetts and Mathison striking out and Whalen with a GO to end IU's 4th.

B4th: Auburn's Irish singles to lead off as he continues to hit IU pitching with Sinnards PC at 44 right now. Sinnard get a flyout and a K for two outs with Irish holding at 1st. Sinnard gives up a single to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. A single scores Auburn's first run of the game with runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs. A GO ends the inning with no further damage done.

5th Inning:

T5th: IU has the 8, 9, and 1 hitters up and IU goes down in order.

B5th: It's the 9, 1 and 2 hitters up for Auburn. Sinnards puts down the first two batters, but walks the next man bringing up Irish who is batting .600 against IU as of this at bat and is 2 for 2 in this game. We finally retire Irish to end the inning.

6th Inning:

T6th: IU has the 2 thru 4 hitters up. Jessee leads off with a single and he is 3 for 3 so far in this game. Pyne and Ellis both fly out for the first two outs with Jessee still at 1st. Tibbetts walked and Mathison grounded out leaving two on.

B6th: Kraft replaced Sinnard who had an excellent game. A line out, walk, K, single and a fielder's choice ended the inning with Auburn stranding two runners and no damage done.

7th Inning:

T7th: The bottom of the order is up and Whalen grounds out to lead off. Goforth singles for his first hit of the game with one out. Serruto singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out and the top of the order up. Auburn goes to the bullpen again with Glasser up, and Auburn in on their 5th pitcher of the game. Glasser flied out, but Jessee doubled to LF scoring both Serruto and Goforth to make it 10-1 and Pyne flied out to end a productive half inning for IU.

B7th: Kraft is still on the mound. A leadoff pinch hit put a man on, but he was thrown out at 2nd on a fielder's choice with a runner at 1st and one out. Kraft then got a K for the 2nd out. Kraft then struck out our nemesis Irish who killed us this weekend to end the inning. It's a good sign to see Kraft go through two straight innings with some pretty good pitching.

Love to see the bats come to life. I’m guessing this game is the blueprint for the way they want to play. Early lead, good pitching, good defense.

8th Inning:

T8th: Auburn goes to their 6th pitcher of the day and he faces the 4 thru 6 hitters. Ellis walked to lead off with Vecrumba pinch running for him. Vecrumba stole 2nd and Tibbetts walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Mathison flied out with the runners holding for the first out. Whalen singled to load the bases with one out and Auburn went to the bullpen again to bring in their 7th pitcher of the game. A WP scored Vecrumba with runners moving to 2nd and 3rd and one out. Goforth grounded out for the 2nd out with the runners holding. Serruto flied out to end IU's half of the 8th.

B8th: Kraft faced the 4 thru 6 hitters. Kraft gave up a solo homer to the leadoff man, but then got the next three batters on a flyout, pop up, and a K to end the inning with no further damage done.

9th Inning:

T9th: It's the top of the order for IU with Pyne getting a hit before the side was retired.

B9th: IU brings in Seti Manase, the JUCO transfer, to close it out and he had really good numbers coming out of the JUCO ranks. Manase put them down in order on a GO, K, and a flyout to end the game.

IU's bats came to life today and they had 14 hits to include four doubles and the GS. Four players had multi-hits with:

Jessee 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs
Pyne 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs
Mathison 2 for 5 and 4 RBIs with the GS
Whalen 2 for 4

The bottom of the order got four hits today which is good to see.

We got pretty good pitching today with Sinnard and Kraft pretty much shutting them down and an excellent 1-2-3 closeout inning by the JUCO transfer Seti Manase.

With the exception of Vega, our pitching over the first two games was nothing to write home about. Today, we certainly got what we were hoping for in that area. It wasn't an easy opening series for us and we did salvage the last game of the series which is promising.

I took a peek at our opponent next weekend against Texas in Austin, which is ranked No. 24 in one of the polls. Texas got off to a bad start in the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, TX. They went 0-3 against major competition, losing to Arkansas (2-1), Missouri (1-1), and Vanderbilt (2-1).
