1st Period:
Both teams shot the ball well, especially Rutgers who hit 5 of their first 6 shots including a three. IU grabbed a lead at 14-11, but Rutgers would tie it on a 3 and would take a five-point lead at the end of the 1st, 22-17, with IU getting sloppy with the ball and Rutgers scoring back-to-back baskets off of two IU turnovers. IU would have four turnovers in the period, while Rutgers, who is averaging over 20 turnovers a game, had just two turnovers.
2nd Period:
IU turned the ball over at the start of the period with Rutgers scoring off it to take a 24-17 lead. An old fashion three point play by Moore-McNeil cut the lead to 24-20, and then Parrish hit a 3-ball to cut the lead to one at 24-23. IU would retake the lead on a 3 by Garzon at the 7:22 mark and a Berger basket would give IU a 28-24 lead. An old fashion three point play by Holmes would give IU a 31-26 lead. Rutgers hurt IU on offensive rebound buckets in the game up to this point with IU up 36-30 and were outrebounding IU badly at this point of the game with the Scarlet Knights just about doubling up IU in that category to include 6 offensive rebounds. Things would start going IU's way late in the period as IU would take a 42-33, and another 3 by Garzon gave IU a lead of 45-35. Holmes would pick up her 2nd foul late in the period and head to the bench with IU up 50-42 at the half.

Coach Moren said that IU had a lackluster practice leading into this game and it showed on the defensive side as Rutgers was excelling in areas on offense that they usually are not real good at coming into this game, although they were pretty good in the rebounding area which showed today. Rutgers hit on almost 53 pct of their shots in the half, while IU shot over 60 pct from the field and were led on offense by Holmes, Garzon and Berger all of whom had a big first half on the offensive end. Rutgers dominated IU on the boards in the first half, while IU cut down on their turnovers and had just one in the 2nd period. Rutgers was in foul trouble with one starter with 3 fouls while two others had 2 fouls each. Meister had 3 fouls in the half while Holmes had 2 fouls.
3rd Period:
IU would push the lead up to 59-47 early in the period. At a TV timeout at the 4:57 mark, IU was up 61-49 with Berger almost perfect from the field today and had 16 points on the game at this point and was 6 of 7 from the field and 2 for 2 on 3s. Berger continued her hot shooting with a basket which gave IU at lead of 65-51. A 3-point shot and an old fashion three-point play by Rutgers cut IU's lead to eight at 65-57 as Rutgers continued to get offensive rebounds. A three by Berger, a basket by Rutgers, and a three by Parrish put the lead at 71-59. Rutgers would score the final basket of the period with IU up 71-61. Rutgers' shooting percentage remained at just over 50 pct and they were 50 pct on the 3s and that along with their rebounding advantage had kept them in the game at this point. IU's offense has been great, but their defense has been nothing to write home about.
4th Period:
IU pushed the lead up to 14 points, their largest lead of the game, at the 8:21 mark. Every time it seems that IU starts pulling away, Rutgers responds with a big play and they got an old fashion three-point play to cut the lead to 75-64. A 3-ball by Parrish, a bucket by Rutgers, and a bucket by Holmes put the lead at 80-66. IU put the lead up to 83-66 at a TV timeout with 4:58 to play. IU had just 8 turnovers at this point after having 4 in the first period. Both Holmes and Berger were pulled from the game at the 2:37 mark, and Parrish and Moore-McNeil soon followed.
It took IU a while to get things going on the defensive end, but they finally started playing like they are capable of in the second half, especially from the halfway point in the 3rd and on. Holmes and Berger led IU with 21 points apiece with Parrish scoring 17 and Garzon with 14. IU was 62.7 pct from the floor and 61.1 pct behind the arc. Attendance was 8,598.
