As we all know, non-conference schedules vary in the degree of difficulty, so some of the stat rankings have been skewed based on that. As of right now, IU is tied for 9th in team hitting, and are 4th in team fielding and 12th in team ERA. Ellis leads the B1G in homers with 10, while Mathison and Tibbetts, as well as other players in the conference are tied for 6th with 5 homers. Whalen is tied for 1st in steals. Clearly, these stats don't mean much with the inequities of the schedules, but I still thought they would be of some interest. Needless to say, we will find out where teams actually stand when we get a few games into the conference season, and even then, the schedules vary in degree of difficulty. Michigan and IU are the top two teams in the B1G right now in the national SOS with UM at 22 and IU at 85, while the two lowest teams are Minn at 182 and Purdue at 241.
