They listed their top 100 assistants going into the new season, and Simmons was on it. He's going into his fifth season at IU and works with hitters and coaches the infielders.

Simmons is the man. He is the driver from a recruiting perspective and the talent he is bringing in is impressive and speaks to his influence across the baseball landscape. His stock will continue to rise and I hope IU is able to keep him, but at some point a HC position that he can’t reject will come knocking. If that’s a goal for him.

Isn’t he the same guy that was coaching base running a couple years ago when we were running into all kinds of outs and getting picked off regularly? And our hitters struck out at an alarming (depressing) rate? It seems he’s gotten better at his job and getting some good pub. Good for him.

Maybe. But those of us who watch every game every season see curious decisions and a lack of previous winning at a high level. There are very knowledgeable posters here who are far from sold on the current regime. Time will tell.
