1st Period:

It was Senior Day and a charged up crowd at Iowa. IU got the first bucket, but Iowa hit five straight shots to include a couple of 3s to take a 13-2 lead and an IU timeout. IU then goes on a 6-0 run with the score 13-8 when Clark hit her second 3 of the game to make it 16-8. Iowa the scored on an and-one to make it 19-8 Iowa. IU went on a 5-0 run before Iowa scored again to make it 21-13. It was 23-18 at the end of the period with Iowa in the lead and IU weathering that first emotion-filled barrage by Iowa at the start of the game. Holmes and Berger did most the scoring in the period with a combined 13 points. Clark had 8 points to include a couple of 3s.

2nd Period:

IU pulled with one point at 30-29 with a little over 6 minutes left in the half and Berger picked up her 2nd foul. A couple of FTs and another 3 by Clark put Iowa up 35-29 and a TV timeout with under five minutes left in the half. Clark and Kate Martin have carried Iowa up to this point in scoring with IU's scoring being balanced. After grabbing an early 2-0 lead, IU regained the lead at 37-36 at the 2;20 mark of the period and then IU and Iowa traded leads. A banked in shot by Clark put Iowa up 40-39 at the half.

Half: Iowa 40 IU 39

Berger had 10 points for IU with Holmes adding 9 points at the half and IU has five players with five or more points. Iowa was led by Clark with 16 points while Martin had 13. Both teams had just four turnovers in the half and rebounding was pretty even. Both teams had one started with multiple fouls with Berger having two fouls and Iowa's Martin also having two fouls. Iowa was 6 of 14 on 3s while IU hit just 2 of 11 behind the arc.

3rd Period:

Iowa opened the period with a 6-0 run with Clark doing most of the damage. IU closed to within four at 46-42. With around five minutes left in the period, Warnock knocked down a 3 to make it a nine point lead at 51-42 before Parrish got a an-one to cut the lead down to 6 at 51-45 at a TV timeout and 4:50 left in the period. Moore-McNeil knocked down a 3 to cut the lead to 3 at 51-48. IU fell asleep on defense and Clark got a an-one layup to make it 54-48. A three-ball by Martin gave Iowa at 57-48 lead before Moor-McNeil knocked down a 3. Moore-McNeil picked up her 4th foul and went to the bench. IU went on a little run at the end of the period to close within one before Clark made two FTs to give Iowa a 61-58 lead at the end of the period. Clark had 27 points at this point and having Moore-McNeil in foul trouble has hurt IU on the defensive end.

4th Period:

IU and Iowa traded 3s after Clark knock down two straight buckets to start the 4th and IU down 68-65 after two FTs by Berger. Another two FTs by Garzon and a three by Parrish gave IU the lead at 70-68 at just over 6 minutes to play and Iowa called a timeout. Iowa's Marshall who doesn't shoot the ball much, nailed a wide-open 3-pointer to give Iowa the lead back and Czinano got an and-one to put Iowa up 74-70 with under five minutes to play. It was 77-74 Iowa with 2:45 to play before Parrish knocked down two FTs to pull within one point at 77-76. A bucket by Iowa and then an and-one by Holmes tied the game at 79-79 with a little over two minutes left. Berger had a midrange jumper that she usually knocks down, but it spun out to leave the game tied. Both teams traded baskets to keep it tied, but two FTs by Czinano gave Iowa the lead at 83-81. A foul by Clark put Moore-McNeil at the line and she ties it again at 83-all with 35 seconds left and Iowa with the ball. Iowa had a close in shot roll off the rim giving IU a last second shot attempt with 4.6 seconds left. Holmes was fouled on a shot with 1.5 seconds left and Iowa's coach was going beserk, but not to the level of Fran. Holmes makes both to give IU the lead, With the ball advancing on the timeout in women's basketball, Clark knocked down a 3 pointer to win it.

This is a tough-minded IU team and all of the intangibles were against them in a game that was treated like a national championship by Iowa. Clark had 34 points and was 4 of 12 on 3s, but that last one was all that mattered for Iowa. This loss doesn't hurt IU at all given the game circumstances and losing just by one on a last second shot. Holmes had 21 points, while Moore-McNeil and Parrish had 18 points apiece with Berger having 16.
