Zone defense or our Cellophane defense?

In 1960 McCracken's IU team of Bellamy, Radovich, Wilkinson, Lee and Hall lost their first 3 B1G games, one a game that was given away in Bloomington to Ohio State. Branch then switched to a zone and won out (11-3), finishing second to Lucas and company at Ohio State (13-1). That team also blew out Ohio State in Columbus.

Given that IU has truly bad defenders (JBJ, Troy, Zeisloft) and mediocre defenders (Yogi, Bryant), I would hope that the coaching staff would make the best of available talent and use the zone as the base defense. I know that going zone is giving up on playing the best defense, but when you are dealt lemons, make lemonade.
