He went back to Harvard in 2017 at age 64.
Why you would take that job, at that age, without demanding tenure right then? That is crazy. Harvard is notoriusly picky on tenure. You move to a better department, but if it doesn't come with job protection of tenure, that is a stupid move for someone over 50, especially for someone who says controversial things or adopts unpopular positions such as being pro-Palestinian.
Still, he should not be hurting for job offers.

Do you think that there are no Jewish people in high level administrative positions at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton?
Extremely pro Jewish would be controversial too. As CO.H. might say... it's nuanced
And the Jewish staff at Harvard and the other Ivys are probably more pro-Palestinian than the rest of the faculty. Especially if they work in the social sciences and what is left of the humanities departments.
Just because they're Jewish, doesn't make them pro-Israel. Bernie Sanders is Exhibit A.
