I know this is a bizarre hypothetical, but I just talked to a very intelligent, very progressive friend now in Seattle. She insists that Trump will seriously try to stay in office after his second term and that he is already laying the groundwork for it (without a Constitutional amendment). I pushed back, but eventually said I would take up arms to prevent that, if need be. As I reflect on it, though, I'm not sure I would--maybe I would leave the country?

I don't know, but thought I'd ask the group. I'm particularly interested in seeing what our MAGA supporters' responses are. By illegitimate, I mean the Constitution doesn't change and the SCt doesn't rule that a third term is legally possible.

She. Why were you posting so late last night? What’s going on?

I’m not interested in getting killed - especially over Donald Trump. So, no, I wouldn’t take up arms. But I would leave the country.

However, this is hysteria. Heard the same things in his first term. I actually won a bet regarding this. Long before the 2020 election, a friend insisted that Trump wouldn’t leave office if he lost.

There were some texts exchanged on January 6th, as you might expect. But guess who won the bet?

I’m quite confident that our institutions are strong enough to withstand something like this.

Yes I’d definitely be up for fighting. Even if the alternative was Harris/AOC and socialism

Co-sign. @BradStevens this is a better answer than mine. I’m not getting killed and abandoning my kids over trump or to be honest this country

I would only take up arms if he came after my Bitcoin. That’s great she is intelligent. How does she look in a two piece?

As others have said, I'm not sure I'd die and leave my kids fatherless over Don the Con. But the only way he could do this in such short time would be a military coup of some sort. I'd absolutely get the f out of here if that happens.

I don't think it will though. Don Jr will be the next president. Trump will retire to Mar-a-lago, basking in his "victory".

I bet something filthy went on last night. Old Brad got in there and rooted around like pig at a Mr. Gatti’s buffet. Best pizza on this side of the Mississippi.
I hope not!!! It’s sooooooo fun but the consequences are just brutal. And even all that is a younger man’s game. Each time adds somewhere between 5-10 years to your work life

First, I don't believe this will happen.

I am not up for physical violence by any means, so if that is what is meant, no. I certainly will be glad to point here the error of his ways. Leaving the country as @crazed_hoosier2 said is also a good answer. But I think civil disobedience is also a valid response.

Leaving doesn’t seem viable. Kids extended fam etc. I can’t even get out of this horrible state

A) she's not as intelligent as she might seem

B) none of us would need to take up arms because the very people who've been identified as just a bunch of sycophants and bootlickers who currently work for him would band together and throw him out on their own...

Non-issue.... but if it truly worries her I'd suggest she renounce her citizenship and move to her favorite other country...(Just to get ahead of the crowd)... I would have said Canada but since they may soon be our 51st and 52nd states that's probably a nonstarter... 😉🇨🇦🤣 The UK seems to be a Hollywood favorite these days...

Hardly shocking that you would not have the courage of your Leftist convictions. All your ilk is good for is pissing and moaning.

That is literally the only type of person who would believe that nonsense. She most likely buys all the nazi, facist, and all that jazz she has been told on msnbc. No normal average person believes he will have a third term. But let her I guess I am sure it drives her crazy. Just because someone has a few advanced degrees doesn't make them intelligent in common sense

I'd probably just ride it out. Can't imagine another Trump term would inconvenience me too much.

But the only way he could do this in such short time would be a military coup of some sort.

Trump doesn't have Brownshirts, and it would take something like that to pull it off. Also, the DOJ, DOD, FBI, and the courts would have to allow it to happen. It seems inconceivable, but I'm no longer surprised by anything he might try. He tried to overturn an election with a mob once, so...

The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers and the pardoned J6ers could become the private force that he would need, and the sycophants he's installed in the aforementioned agencies might just hesitate long enough to allow him to seize power.

It’s also possible that he knows that the stakes are too great to risk elections and that we need him for as long as he lives. Like how he’s taken off his belt and done very hard things. Basically Father fathering

The beer gut brigade won't move the needle at all. It's his overhaul of DOJ, the military brass, plus the spineless SCOTUS would conceivably could allow him to pull it off.

Damn you switched on a dime!

Coward! 😂

What do we think the average age is on this forum? I am 46 and I would bet I am on the young end. Shooting wars are a young man's game.

I think that barring a constitutional change, an attempt at a third term would be met by him getting tossed out on his ass by elements of the military in conjunction with Congress. I don't believe that half the people kissing his ass because they feel they have to now would have his back on something like that. Trump pulls that he will spend his last days in jail as would anyone stupid enough to try and overthrow the government in that manner with him.

That level of power grab would be the last straw. Time to find a different country to live in, a fascist-free zone. I'm plotting retirement in 2030 anyway, though the current NIH situation might move that up.

Why wait?

Get ahead of the crowd...

I hear Syria has a nice climate and you can choose your personal flavor of government just by migranting 50 mikes one way or another...

Only if I could get a clean shot at Mas. Otherwise probably not, I’d take my own eye out.

Oh fo sho. Eye black. Probably a celtic cross or some shit on my bicep. Punisher sticker on my newly purchased 1988 Dodge Ram, **** yeah.

Hey!

I've seen you before!

You're the joker who cut me off on the outside when I was trying to move over to be able to exit one of those quad lane traffic circles at the N end of that strip mall called Car-mell...

🍺😎🍺

Actually I’d probably move to the U.K. and get season tickets to Man U and visit every stadium. I’d also travel routinely to see Barcelona and Lamine Yamal win multiple champions league titles. I’d move to Barcelona but they hate Americans.

Our backup plan if total chaos like this scenario happens is to move to Ireland. My wife qualifies for Irish citizenship and paperwork might be ready when needed. Sounds crazy but MAGA is crazy.

That was literally my retirement plan until my no good pecker got me again
