I understand the shopping but if the only thing a kid wants is money, do you really want him on your team?

I guess all team uniforms need to be the same with a white uniform for home and black for away. Put a number on the back and a huge dollar sign on the front.
I think we need to also add their NIL sponsor patches like they do in the Euro League. Forget about school colors, wear whatever the players like. (this is joking btw) I am very old school on uniforms.

I get the cynicism Stoll, easy to come to that conclusion in today’s climate. And here comes my naive viewpoint that is completely on the theory side - possible recruits used to do this exact thing - visit several schools and then make their decision. Could be, right?

Every poster in this thread is about the money. It's crazy that some holier than thou posters hate on a kid for visiting several colleges, learning how he will be used and be financially compensated. Looking down on a kid for doing the exact same damn thing that you would do in this situation is unreal....

The old school NCAA dumbasses screwed the pooch and left us with this. Maybe not, but if they'd been out in front of it... Of course, big sports schools had a profitable thing going with the bag men system, with a big edge over schools not doing it, and they had their tentacles into the NCAA.

It would be dumb, unless already wealthy, to not see what the market is and try to maximize it. Of course other factors weigh in the decisions, but money is important.

I hope he doesent but is he really the cant miss kid? I know the Hoosiers need players but that ppg average and shooting % will drop immensely moving on to the B1G or SEC. Parker Stewart #s at best.
He won’t be anything like Parker Stewert. If UK/Duke etc wants him then he’s legit. UK willing to pay. Was anyone willing to pay Stewart?

Since this NIL fiasco started the money is all any of them are worried about.
They don’t care about the name on the front of the jersey at all.

Not sure I agree. I've turned down offers with higher pay for better fit and opportunity to do more of what I wanted to do

Please. Didn't his West Virginia team this past season beat Arizona, Gonzaga and Kansas at Kansas before losing his two top scorers for the year? What big-timey coaches without severe baggage were going to come to IU? Do tell.
Buzz Williams went to Maryland

I look at the portal as a kind of ecosystem all its own. Every team has a bag of money and available playing time. This is the supply and those are the resources demanded by the players. And, of course, program attraction is an important variable - but we are sufficiently attractive. While other teams have expended more of their resources, IU still has a big bag and a lot of playing time. I think DD understands this very well. There remains a lot of really good players who want the supply of both and you can bet that some are getting nervous about finding a program with the right balance of those. The key is managing the supply and demand curves so that you optimize your resources. And yeah - I’m anxious like everyone else. But I think DD will strike soon while there is still a high tier of players available.

I don't follow recruiting, but I'm almost done watching college sports entirely. There was a certain purity to it even if imperfect. Now it's just a glorified minor league.

I would think most, if not all, of these players have agents. It’s obvious what the agents agenda is. How much control the players are giving their agents probably differs from player to player.

Maybe the (a) player tells his agent, “I really want to commit here”. The agent then says that’s fine but wait until you see what the next University will offer? You may like it just as much as, but if not, it will increase our bargaining power at IU.

However it’s playing out, you’re wanting your team (IU) to be able to overcome whatever comes up and be excellent closers. At this point, that’s still a little bit of an unknown.
