Seniors Whop Philyor (#1) and Ty Fryfogle (#3) are clearly the leaders of the 2020 Wide Receiver group in terms of both experience and production. The two have combined for over 200 catches, 2,500 yards and 15 touchdowns. Whop's tireless energy and 'Frys' steady work ethic are both great examples for younger Hoosiers to follow.

Whop (Tampa, FL) was named second team All-Big Ten by the coaches in 2019 and third team All-Big Ten by the media. He has six career 100 yard games and an IU best five career games with 10 or more catches. Last season he had 14 catches against Michigan State and Nebraska respectively and a career high 182 yards vs Rutgers. Philyor also had two touchdowns apiece at Michigan State and Purdue.

Whop currently ranks 15th on Indiana's career reception list (126) and is 66 receptions away from overtaking James Hardy as the Hoosiers all-time leader in catches. He is 1,169 yards away from becoming Indiana's all-time leader in career yards as well.

Whop has been named to the 2020 Maxwell and Biletnikoff Award Watch Lists (best overall player, best receiver).

Ty Fryfogle (Lucedale, MS) has 75 career catches for 998 yards. He had five catches for a career high 131 yards and a touchdown last season at Penn State and a career high 6 catches vs Ball State. He needs only two yards to eclipse the 1,000 career yard mark and 25 catches to surpass 100 career grabs.

Miles Marshall (#13), So, had 16 catches for 196 yards and a TD in 2019. He hauled in a career-high 4 grabs for 49 yards at Purdue an scored vs Eastern Illinois. Marshall is a versatile receiver who can play in multiple positions and hails from Lilburn, GA.

David Ellis will line up at running back and is expected to get runs between the tackles but he is also likely to see some 'extended handoff' type passes out of the backfield. In this way he will almost certainly factor into Indiana's passing attack.

Sophomore Luke Shayotovich (#19) has one career catch while Juniors Cam Wilson (#25) and Christian Harris (#82) have each appeared in three career games.

The two freshman who are most likely to step in and contribute right away are Rashawn Williams (#15) and Javon Swinton (#18). Williams (Detroit, MI) was listed as a four-star prospect by both ESPN and Rivals and was 2019 Mr. Football finalist in Michigan.

Swinton (North Stafford, VA) has by multiple accounts been turning heads in Fall Camp by making some big plays. As a Junior and Senior in high school he had a combined 74 catches for 1,490 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Both Williams and Swinton are likely to experience some growing pains as Freshman but both could be in a position to contribute early and often as part of Indiana's aerial attack.

I want to see how they play this year as they will have a great chance to excel. Tied in with the RBs this group of receivers could have exceptional seasons.

One of my concerns beyond depth is the loss of Westbrook and Hale. Not so much their receiving production (not to disparage that) but their blocking on run plays and perimeter passes. Those two were big physical guys who did pretty well in that department. Not sure how that will be replaced and good WR blocking can make good plays great plays.

Nice write up. You make a good point about the downfield blocking. I hope to see Da’Shaun Brown take some good steps forward this year. I think he and Williams and Swinton are the future for IU at receiver.
