Loeffler in Georgia ran an add that she is "more conservative than Attila the Hun". Now, why would a candidate run a commercial purposely comparing themselves to Attila, let alone purposely saying they are "more conservative than"? I would think many of the Republicans don't want to think of themselves as near Attila, let alone further down the line from him. But somewhere in her focus groups or in her polling, he campaign hit the idea that saying she is "more conservative than Attila the Hun" was a winner. I'm at a loss, why is her choosing a comparison to Attila a reason to vote for her? Anyone have a thought?

Them's Sope's peeps.

I have no idea why she/her campaign thought that was a good idea. It's stupid and wrongheaded, but I'm sure there will be some hard-line conservatives telling everyone how this makes perfect sense because if you stand on your head and squint really hard, the Huns were the poster children for modern day staunch conservatism.

I think it's because she feels like she has to attract Collins voters if she advances to the runoff vs Warnock. No one is going to get 50% to avoid a runoff, so she is trying to ensure that disgruntled Collins voters do not boycott and sit out if she's the one that advances out of the Nov 3 jungle primary...

I suspect she has no idea who and what AtH actually was. Anyone who does would not make such a comparison.

My WAG is that she's been described as "to the right of Atilla the Hum" or some such during the campaign and she decided to own it and run with it. Much like Deplorables in 2016.

I don't know why the comparison, but Attila is kind of a victim of propaganda. He was no more terrible than any other ruler of his time.

He was just more successful than most. There aren't many leaders from the Dark Ages one should aspire to compare themselves with.

My fav alleged AtH quote:

"It is not that I merely succeed, it's that everyone else has to fail, horribly, preferably in front of their parents".

I think she's making a couple of bets here. First she's betting that Georgians don't know much of anything about the history of Western Civilization. And second, she's betting that Georgians don't know how to use Google.

Just providing more porn for her base. As Gingrich said, the more divisive you can be in politics the higher your profile gets raised and the more money comes in from your loyal base.

There is a big swath of people who just care about pwning libs. How is Qanon rising? Same way Rush Limbaugh got millions of listeners.

It's WWF marketing. Become a cult of personality and get famous.

That's why the commercial had that 'eliminate that liberal journalist' line at the end.

White Nationalist Pornography.

^^^ THIS ^^^

BTW, she's spent the entire campaign demagoguing Collins to the point where I've thought I'd have to vote for Collins before I'd vote for her . . .

. . . BTW2, the only reason she was appointed senator to replace Johnny Isakson is because she is married to the CEO of Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of several exchanges globally, including the NYSE. She is a representative of investors' interests above all else.

Worse, she's originally from Illinois . . . .

[on edit]: Are you sure the runoff would be against Warnock? I was under the impression that the runoff would be between the two top candidates, and if both of those are Pubs, then it's between them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_Senate_special_election_in_Georgia

Currently Loeffler and Collins are leading the polls . . . with Warnock 3rd. I'm thinking that Warnock needs Lieberman and Tarver to quit the race to have any chance of gaining a runoff spot. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/e...enate_special_election_open_primary-7069.html
